As advised, it might be an over-zealous firewall program, if you have one. However, ISTR that there was a recent trojan that actually generated a proxy "denial of service" attack on Microsoft websites, including Windows Update, to prevent victims downloading a fix to the loophole it exploited.

sounds like your computer has had a virus and its deleted your windows verification thats why windows wont let you download( if youve just bought the pc the program might be a copy and it will cost you 90 quid to get genuine windows) if not go to windows verification you will need your product id ( usually on the side of your processor) windows should take you through the rest.i ended up going through comand prompt wih a load of regedit no`s.

you cant download it from the microsoft updates because your windows copy isn^t genine (my case) so youll have to get your windows copy validated and then you can download it

ur firewall might be blocking u or if ur running internet explorer 7 it doesn't let you access some sites or download some things

if you have a firewall that might be stopping you. if that is the case hold down the ctrl button while clicking on the link, to temporarily disable the firewall good luck

maybe you have a virus, do a scan, other it may be your Windows XP copy is illegal so it wont donwload. Check you copy of windows is legal.
