While your about it why not put extra on alchol and junk food. Then for good measure you could make people who dont take enough exercise pay more income tax.
Keep on going and you might get your petrol for free! There would be less cars on the road cos all those people paying extra wont be able to afford a car. Of course this would lead to poor road maintenance as less car owners means less revenue from car tax. Then someone would have a bright idea, they would increase fuel prices and take a proportion of this to help maintain the roads for all those non-smoking, non- drinking car owners.

How about add £2 to cigs, keep petrol at the same rate, and put all the extra money into improving schools. That way in 10 years we will all reap the benefits of a generation of geniuses entering work.

So you want smokers to pay for your petrol? That is nice of you to want someone else to pay for your petrol. Why don't you advocate adding the same amount to the price of some unnecessary food item that YOU like and think about it that way for a while?
If you were successful, then the price of petrol would just go back up after everyone quit smoking and you would be right back where you started except that you would have taken away someone's freedom.

I sympathise with you, as I also drive but don't smoke.
That wouldn't, however, solve the impending problem of gridlock on our roads, which is what the Government are trying to do by making it the preserve of the rich to drive.
I suggest that more motorcycle use should be encouraged. When did you ever see a traffic jam caused by motorcycles?
I drive for work as I have to, and always will because I don't use my own car. On my own time I use my motorcycle by choice.

no, why punish one group of people just because YOU dont agree with them...how about lets bring back prohibition, or outrageously tax alcohol....you NEVER go to a pub for ale?...you are not perfect just like everyone else on the planet so what could i jack the price of that would hurt your wallet and/or feelings?...i get so sick of people placing smokers in an insubordinate category as if to say that you are so much better than they are....i might be a smoker (then again i might not) but it sure beats being a self righteous, pretentious, narcissistic jackass!

You can add £10 to a packet of fags and drop the price of fuel by 60p a litre, I will still buy my fags from France just like 75% of us smokers who refuse to pay UK prices.

smokers are paying for their own cancer treatment and drivers are paying for their road accidents so you tell me how bringing down prices is gonna work. until the nhs stops employing agency nurses for 60 odd quid an hour and employs the regular nurses who actually need jobs then the price of fuel and fags will not go down.
this goverment is an absolute mockery and people are taking us for a ride and p i s s i n g on our uk

Thats a good idea for people who dont smoke. But then again in relationships where money is tight and one person is a smoker and smokes 40 everyday and you know smokers they need the cigarettes or all hell breaks loose. and it would cost a fortune. So for non smokers who drive its a good idea.

For people who smoke and drive ( I can't drive for medical reasons), if you could convince Congress to do it someone would tell you to go into politics and get set up to run for a seat in it.
