You know like books that have lasted throught the ages, archiological finds?
I know there is "lack" of evidence. But is there anything we can stack up?

Flip,
Most of our friends (atheist) say there is no proof or they say the burden of proof is not on us. So they offer none.
You say, "But there is all kinds of documented proof, that Jesus never existed."
But you don't offer it. Help your brethren. Apparently, most of us don't even know you HAVE proof.

Dr.,

"no need to disprove something that doesn't exist"

Before you go onto a possibly radioactive area; you had BETTER prove there are no traces of material there!

Go back to school.

bogusbeachbum,

"There is as much "documentation" to prove god as there is to dis-prove god."

You can't REALLY believe that. People will laugh at you.

I don't think many atheists will doubt there was a man called Jesus. In fact at the same time there were several men walking around professing to be healers, sons of God and what not. Jesus may even have actually believed he was a son of God, as do many other people today, but you call them blasphemas and we call them mental patients.
Atheists do not set out to prove by a document that God does not exist, after all documents are created by men and it would be silly to base all your beliefs on a document, especially a really old one that was knocked together by several authors long after the supposed event, modified, edited then edited again - you don't know what type of rubbish might be in there, right? That would just be daft wouldn't it?
Atheists instead use science as a basis of determining the probability of such an entity existing and whereas evolution is a series of very simple steps which in all probability is possible and there is proof of evolutionary change, the God theory is allowing for instant magic and begs the question - who made the creator?
Nuff said.

Yes. How do we define something? We generally define something by its characteristics. Now, God (and I'm assuming you're talking about the Christian god, since you capitalized it) has many claimed characteristics.

The prime characteristic that is mentioned about God is that he inspired the Bible. There are also claims that God is ultra intelligent and ultra powerful. Given that, we can look to the Bible for evidence against God.

If you read the Bible, one thing you'll notice is that there are at least two gods mentioned. In the Old Testament, God is a rather nasty fellow. In the New Testament, he is portrayed as loving. If God is really inspired the Bible, you'd think it would be more consistent. That is evidence that God does not exist.

Also, in the Bible, there are many inaccuracies and many of the stories are borrowed from other myths of the day. That also contradicts the definition of God as an ultra intelligent, ultra powerful being who directly inspired the Bible. It is more evidence.

And there is evidence in other gods that people believe in. There is much study about human psychology and why they believe things like gods, UFO abductions, ESP, and the like. That evidence also suggests that God is man made, like the other gods man has made, like Odin and Zeus.

There are other claims that Christians make to define their god, and some of those claims can also be examined.

As for Jesus, the guy probably did exist, but it is not certain. However, there is evidence that much that was said about him is false. However, so as not to ramble too much more, let me just reference the movie, "The God Who Wasn't There". It's a good film.

Also, please look at Richard Dawkins' new book, "The God Delusion". It is also very well written.

I don't think it is possible to disprove God. We can't disprove many things that we pretty much "know" are imaginary like unicorns, flying teacups in outer space, etc... There was an interesting book called "The Jesus Puzzle" by Earl Doherty that looked at the historical proof for Jesus combined with analysis of what the Bible authors seemed to know and made the case that there was no historical Jesus. I haven't read any rebuttals to the arguements made in the book to know how solid the research was though. I do believe the nonbiblical references to Jesus are very few and those that do exist have some questionable authenticity. I remain neutral to slightly inclined to believe there was a historical figure behind the myths.

Despite your edits that deny the burden of proof belongs to Xians, how can you expect anyone that's sane to believe everything that's so vastly different, but still divided by male and female (with the exception of gases), is created by a singular being? And one that represents a human? And, seriously, if there were such a being that made everything in nature both male and female, why does it make females out to be a secondary extra-something to keep the male entertained? If you read the Bible and don't take it out of context, it's kinda insulting to women

****
Oh, yeah. About documented proof-evilbible.org has a very good explanation as to why the deity described in the Bible does not/can not exist.

Lets get something straight. Atheists do not have to prove a negative. Believers have the burden of proof.

But lets look at the evidence. There is no archaeological evidence of Jesus, or Moses, or Abraham or anything. There is a lot of evidence of a gradual development of Judaism from preexisting Semitic cults in the area but nothing that supports the events of the bible.

I assure you, if believers had any hard evidence of any of the events of the bible, they would be shoving it down unbeliever;s throats.

BTW, come the rapture, can I have your car?

"Many orthodox people speak as though it were the business of skeptics to disprove received dogmas rather than of dogmatists to prove them. This is, of course, a mistake. If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it; I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time."

Sorry, no. You can't prove a negative.
It is logically impossible.
You are asking the wrong question. That is something theists try to catch atheists on. But it is a false argument.
Just like saying prove there is no invisible pink unicorn sitting next to me right now. There's no way you can do it. And no possible way to prove it with any "evidence".

I'm not an atheist. I believe in God. But there is all kinds of documented proof, that Jesus never existed. I could even give you many sources, but I'd be wasting my time. Believe what you will. It doesn't effect my life. And I'm not trying to be sarcastic. If you really want to know truth, I know you can find it on your own.

Prove to me there is evidence that the Flying Spaghetti Monster does not exist. There is documentation on this, so it must be true. Look it up. Seriously, disprove it... I'll be waiting...

Actually, because atheists deny the existence of God because there is NO proof of His existence, it's up to believers to provide proof(s) of his existence. That's just a logical explanation that no philosopher can disagree with.

Sorry, mate!
