The best I have ever had was cloves stuck in it, with pineapples all over it, cooked in a mix of ginger ale. Then just about a few min before it was done brown sugar and honey on top and put in broiler till it carmelized ?

1/4 cup whole cloves
1/4 cup dark corn syrup
2 cups honey
2/3 cup butter
In a sauce pan heat the corn syrup, honey and butter. Keep glaze warm while baking ham. Baste ham every 10 to 15 minutes with the honey glaze. During the last 4 to 5 minutes of baking, turn on broiler to caramelize the glaze. Remove from oven, and let sit a few minutes before serving.

this is what i do

INGREDIENTS
1 (10 pound) fully-cooked, bone-in ham
1 1/4 cups packed dark brown sugar
1/3 cup pineapple juice
1/3 cup honey
1/3 large orange, juiced and zested
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Place ham in a roasting pan.
In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, pineapple juice, honey, orange juice, orange zest, Dijon mustard, and ground cloves. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. Set aside.
Bake ham in preheated oven uncovered for 2 hours. Remove ham from oven, and brush with glaze. Bake for an additional 30 to 45 minutes, brushing ham with glaze every 10 minutes.

Mix honey with maple syrup and brown sugar into a thick paste, and use that as a glaze. You can also add crushed ginger cookies to that, after you brush the glaze on.
Alton Brown made it on Good Eats once, and it was really good when I made it at home.
You can find the recipe on www.foodnetwork.com - just search for glazed ham or holiday ham.

"Ham with Cherry Sauce" - 8 to 10 servings

1 fully cooked bone-in ham (6 to 8 lbs.)
1 cup packed brown sugar
3 tbsp. maple syrup
1 tsp. ground mustard
1/2 cup sugar
3 tbsp. cornstarch
1 cup cold water
1 (16 oz.) pitted dark sweet cherries; undrained
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. almond extract

Place ham in roasting pan. Score surface of ham with shallow diagonal cuts, making diamond shapes. Combine brown sugar, syrup and mustard; rub over ham and press into cuts. Cover and bake at 325* for 1 3/4 to 2 hours or until a meat thermometer reads 140* and ham is heated through.
For cherry sauce, in a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and water until smooth; add cherries. Bring to boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat; stir in lemon juice and extract. Serve with ham.

"Super-Glazed Ham" - 6 to 8 servings

1 fully cooked bone-in half ham (8 to 9 lbs.)
3 tbsp. whole cloves
2 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened apple juice or fruit juice of your choice
2 tsp. ground mustard

Place ham on rack in shallow roasting pan. Score surface of ham, making 1/2"-deep diamond shapes; insert a clove in each diamond. Bake, uncovered, at 325* for 2 hours.
For glaze, combine brown sugar, juice and mustard; spoon some over ham. Bake 30 minutes longer or until a meat thermometer reads 140*, basting occasionally with remaining glaze. Let stand for 15 minutes before slicing.
