I think it is cultural. In the UK we see eating as something functional, we eat because we have to and then we get on with whatever else it may be that we need to do.

I lived in Italy for five years, and was constantly amazed that, for the Italians, eating IS the thing that you are doing. It is not merely some functional nutrition event, but is a social activity that can take hours!

Hey I feel like this also..I can only think when I was a boy..I would be called in for my lunch and I could not wait to get out side with my friends again so I would wolf down my food and take off outside..perhaps it's conditioned from that..or I'm simply talking sh!t ;-)

I am the same way, once a meal comes and I am done with it I want to get out. I don't feel comfortable staying there. I wish I knew why, but you are not alone.

If you went there to eat, then you have accomplished your goal...why stick around? Do you think something magical will happen or something? Eat, pay, leave...that is the basis of restaurants, as far as I know...with the exception of restaurants that also provide additional entertainment.

you need to learn to eat with confidence - a lot of restaurants want to get you in - served up - and out - as quick as possible so that they can get the next customer in - its all about the turn over for them - make sure that if or when you next book a table you ask how long you have it for - don't feel pushy - they would do it to you

There's no point in hanging around once the food is gone. You probably leave to find another place with more food.
