Amaya. What nationality do you picture the person (if at all)? What kind of person?

Just be clear I don't care about nationalities, I am mixed myself. This is just a question out of ciriousity. Some people imagine certain names with a certain face, or race. But it's not meant to be taken offensively.

"Am I a..." sounds like you're starting to ask a question...

Really, you can't place an ethnicity on a name. I learned that when I moved to Utah! Some people here like to get pretty creative w/ names, and I couldn't tell if I was in Utah or Philly!

It certainly sounds feminine, but remember that Sasha is a boy's name in Russia!

The word amaya has middle-eastern roots as well as hispanic roots, (Sri Lanka also came up) where I looked it up. Seems as if the most common interpretation would be that of a hispanic origin if you are in the US. Whatever happened to naming kids something like Joanne, or Stacy? I don't so much care about others names for their children, but I am a huge fan of making the name be one that is simple and uncumbersome for the child.

Sounds exotic. Very pretty name. Don't know what type of nationality it matches up with though. Gives me the picture of a beautiful girl, popular or famous, a kind person.

I don't think of any nationality... I just think it's a nice name. Who cares what the nationality is anyways?

I think it would be some African name. That's just what I picture. It's not meant as an insult or anything.
