Halon Fire extinguishing agent is in use throughout the boats, this is Bromo-tri-Chloro-di-Flouro-ethane BCF in the old language....quite a dangerous substance in itself but extremely effective for on board fires....breathing apparatus is mandatory...

The best solution is to seal the room with the fire and shut off the air flow (to that room of course) The fire goes out quickly from starvation.

Of course, then you have to open the windows to air the place out... that gets a bit tricky (grin)
