I'm Japanese 27, and he's 33 English.
I don't use this word as my first language, and "love" in Japanese is not a common word to say to your gf/bf, or even to your husband/wife/familly.
He invited me over to his familly's Xmas, for first time in his life to do this, and his parents are very looking forward to meet me. I feel so in love, and I felt the same with him.
I sent my bf a photo book printed with our pictures together so far for 6 months, with a card "Remember someone loved you on your special day" !
I'm now regretting a little that he might be frighten away...cuz I heard it's not good for girls to mention the L word first...?

relax girl! take a deep breath....now exhale... inhale.... exhale.... inhale.... exhale..... inhale... exhale.... now, envision a clear blue sky, light fragrant breeze, soft sounds of the ocean and think of the positive results that may arise from you saying I LOVE YOU to your bf :) i'm sure there's nothing to worry about :) 5 months is not such a short period that saying I love you would be taken as inappropriate :) and if that's how you really feel then there's even less reason for you to stress out :) honesty is always good :) so cheer up girl, and for him to even introduce you to his family, that's a big step girl! he's definitely thinking of a long-term relationship with you coz no guy in his right mind would introduce a girl to his family if he wasn't serious with her :) if i were you, i'd go out with my girlfriends and have fun, have a few light drinks and revel in the fact that you have a good man :) best wishes :)

I know what you mean. Even english speaking Japanese transfers to America have a problem with saying their feelings.

Now this is coming from a guy that has had that situation in the past. Now if he hasnt answered you yet he is probably is either busy, or timid about his own feelings. Some guys don't like to feel tied down unless it is their own choice. Saying the L word means that you agree to stay by that persons side until a good reason makes it so that you cant. He probably does love you very much but also still has some immaturities about being in a relationship.

I wish you both the best of luck!

Don't listen to anyone but your own heart! I love you is not a poison phrase to all relationships. After 5 months and 2 weeks I proposed to my wife so I love you was said a LOT earlier than that. Taking a risk in life is hard to do but sometimes it pays off. For me it paid off with a wonderful wife!

Good luck and do not stress it too much. I am sure he will appreciated that gift and might not even read into the wording like you're expecting him to.

He's 33. He can handle the L word. If he's introducing you to the family, he's already there as well.

its fine. 6 months isnt a long time but its not a short time either. and if thats the way that you feel then it wasnt wrong of you to say it.

I love u is not a crime in my culture, sometimes people mistake the love word with i need u, i want u//////i can tell everyone in here that i love u with no bad intensions. "love thy neighbor as thy self."
