Could be any one of a number of things. It could be congestive heart failure (which occurs in a higher rate among spaniels than in other dogs), it could be kennel cough, it could be something lodged in his throat.
Take him to the vet. A quick blood test and one or two chest x-rays should tell you most of what you need to know.

i'm satisfied you're taking him to the vet. That makes me more than satisfied that you're being to blame. when I followed my dogs from the humane society, he all started showing signs and warning signs of kennel cough an afternoon or 2 in. My room mate kept attempting to cajole me he replaced into demise and that i might want to take him decrease back for yet another dogs because it replaced into observed with techniques from a eco-friendly-colored nasal drip. *eyeroll* He had slightly a temperature, too and a horrid cough. He acted nice, yet those were his warning signs, and they weren't quite. My wager is kennel cough, if he's been round different dogs or to the groomer, vet, dogs park, etc. the position a dogs with the cough ought to've been. My boy cleared up nice with a shot of an antibiotic to the hip, a round of steroids (his cough replaced into undesirable) and a procedure antibiotics. He finished his drugs and replaced into nice after 2 weeks. on the different hand, it will be some thing else, like a overseas body ingestion, heartworm, etc.

Well, first off, has he done it forever or has it just started? I have a cavalier king charles spaniel who is 11 months old and sometimes when he gets real excited or something similar to what you stated above, he does the same thing. It sounds like kinda gagging and coughing together. He is fine and has no other problems. He seems to get salava down his windpipe and that's all the problem seems to be.

I would take him to the vet. My baby got "Kennel Cough" and I took him to the vet, she prescribed something that I couldn't afford and then explained I could get him some over the counter children's medicine and how much to give him. There are options. He may have asthma and need something. Dogs can have heart attacks! I'll be praying for him!

We had a Boxer and she was 9 when she died. She did the same thing and it ended up being tumors in her lungs. Don't wait any longer and take him to the vet.
