I think both will win in the end. There isn't any reason why both cannot survive. There are already players in development which can play both Blu-ray and HDDVD. I believe this will be analogous with how DVD-R and DVD+R are today where all DVD burners support both formats. Soon all HDTV DVD players will support both blu-ray and HDDVD. This could never have happened with Beta and VHS since they're completely incompatible and it would have been impossible to develop an inter-operable player.

Blu-ray defintitly because it already has big marketing with the PS3 and there are already 10 players out there that can play it. The HD DVD only has players for the Xbox 360 and it can only be found in a couple of stores.

If I had to pick I would say Blu-ray, because not only is it more technologically advanced, but it has more motion picture and manufactor support. VHS beat Betamax because there were more VHS movies being produced than Betamax. I think that will happen with Blu-ray and HD-DVD, since there are more Blu-ray movies being produced.

I think neither win. They are not compatible with each other. One would be best to see which one wins the battle before buying. I purchased a Beta machine thinking it would last, but VHS won the battle; but then again, I bought LaserDisc's as well.

Wait as see, that is what I plan to do.
