Thinking why can't you just make up your mind and ask outright for it. If I haven't got it I'll tell you,if I don't want you to have it I'll say I haven't got it but for goodness sake just flaming well ASK!!!

please don't pick something I have not got.
Its so embarrassing having to then follow the request with "I am sorry I don't have that would you like anything else".
For instance I am always running out of milk and when a friend pops round during the day I cannot offer them a nice cuppa tea or coffee.
I would just give them tap water as thats usually all I have available!!!! Tough love to them!!

I ask them - Hot or Cold?
If Hot then - Tea or Coffee?
If Cold then - Non Alcoholic or Alcoholic?
If Alcoholic then - Beer or Wine?
If Beer - Lager or Bitter?
If Wine - Red or White?
If Non Alcoholic then - Juice, Lemonade or Coke?
I don't ask about Shorts (Whisky, Vodka, Gin etc) they can go thirsty if the above choice is not enough!

For the holidays I usually offer some sort of punch, soda, tea, coffee, eggnog and water. I give my guests the list of drinks and tell them that their on the counter and that they are more then welcome to help themselves.

diet coke, water, wine, coffee. General run down for me. I really don't care what my friends what. They can have anything on hand. They are guests.
