We are all going to have different amounts that we spend because we are all in financially different places. If all you can afford is $25 dollars in gifts then that is fine. Now if you can afford $1000's of dollars in gifts then you should definitely refrain from doing so. My husband and I are buying our two children a "big gift" from Santa. Example my son is 3 yrs and really into dinos so we bought him T-Rex mountain and around 5 of the dinos that go with it. My 2 year old daughter is getting an Art easel and baby doll. These items are totaling around $80-$100 per child. From us they are getting some clothes and other small toys that don't add up to more than $100 per child. I also require that my children go through their old toys that they don't play with and donate them. I try to make the amount they donate equal or greater than what they will be receiving for Christmas. My advice is don't go overboard Christmas is about giving and we don't want our children growing up expecting too much and not being satisfied with what they get. You also don't want to overwhelm them with so much stuff that they don't know where to start. My kids will play all day with Santa gifts and would be happy if they didn't get anything else. Everyone says you shouldn't give your kids clothes for bdays and Christmas but I do every time and my kids are always thankful and happy with their gifts.
Good luck and Happy Holidays

My husband and I both get Christmas bonuses and we use that money to buy presents. It differs each year how much we spend and how many presents we buy. We just try to only spend the money that is designated for Christmas gifts and not borrow money or buy stuff with credit cards. If you are still paying for the gifts next year, then you've spent too much.

I have never gone overboard with my daughter for Christmas. My mom did with me and my brother and sister and we came to expect it and lost the real meaning of Christmas. For my 9 year old, I bought about 6 gifts totalling about $100 ( I bought them all the day after thanksgiving and would have wound up spending $200 if I didnt). My 18mo son I bought 4 gifts and spent $80. They get so many gifts from family members too. My daughter gets $50 she can spend anyway she wants to help charity out for Christmas.

How much are you spending? Are you breaking the bank to buy presents? My husband and I agreed to spend up to $100 on our son for Christmas; however,we found something he really wanted that only cost $25, so we spent about $25 more on stocking stuffers. Children don't care about how much you spend on them. They just like Christmas and the gifts they do receive. Just find them something they want, and you should have a great Christmas!

I look at my budget and decide from there. I don't take out loans, I don't use my credit cards, I look at the cash that I have on hand and then I decide what's going to be spent on Christmas. I don't think that going for broke every year is good.
This year, my budget allows me to spend 200$ each on my kids, and 200$ on my husband. However many presents that buys depends on what they want. My oldest wants a DVD player for his room, and the youngest wants blocks and crayons.. so.. to each his own, and when the oldest gets less presents.. it's because they were more expensive ones.

We go a bit overboard sometimes, too. Normally, our sons get one or two big-ticket items each(they are each getting new bikes this years), then the rest is small stuff, like toys, video games, CD's, books, etc. They do get a little spoiled, but we try to rein it in and keep the costs down. This year will be really reined in because we just purchased a new LCD TV!! Merry Christmas to the whole family there!!

Please Don't go broke trying to get you child everything. Most kids won't care how many they get or how much you spent, as long as they like it.I don't believe that kids need ALOT of toys. Like a toy box full, and maybe a few biger toys. We maybe spend 100$ on our 2 and 1/2 year old son for christmas. Just get a few things you know they'll like. Merry Christmas

It depends on your budget. Don't break yourself to buy gifts. Look at what you can afford and proceed accordingly. Most kids (depending on age) aren't worried about how much you spend.... get a few ideas on what they'd like and go from there.
Try letting them pick out one BIG gift and two or three smaller ones....

I have 8 nieces and nephews on ONE side of my family! Having a big family is a big hit in the wallet. My job was to find something each kid would like for under 10 bucks. It was hard, but I did it. THe older ones got books, ones that I know they'll enjoy, and the babies got toys. I still have to shop for my dad and father-in-law, joy... but its up to you.
