My cat, who is awsome, will constantly lift her paws up and down on me before laying on me-it can last a few minutes-why does she do this?

This is a movement kittens engage in when nursing. Since nursing is probably a high point in a cat's life, it suggests your cat is happy or content and this physical act from her past gets acted out. We've had cats who would "nurse" on a shirt button or even someone's hair when in an affectionate mood. These activities were always accompanied by the kneading motions.

Kneading their mother’s mammal glands as kittens proved to be profitable because it activates milk production.
As cats give up ever growing up when they stay with humans, they keep their kitten behavior or a reminiscence of it for all their lives.
Hence the kneading.
But the first reason was activating milk production!

This works even with buttons and underpants, etc. It takes some body odor or washing or bed linen.
But you will never see them kneading a hard surface!

Hi, mother cat!

My cats do that a lot especially my kitten and she does it for like 20 minutes or more before she lays down on me. I think it has to relate to them being kittens and associating you as a parent.

To get comfortable. It's reminiscent of when they used to knead their mother's stomach when they nursed. It shows she's happy. :)

She's fluffing you up. Don't you fluff your pillows? My Stimpy does this so often it feels good. Start pointing to spot she misses. Beats going to the spa.
