Dane Cook, in "vicious circle", spends a good 20 minutes ripping on atheism. Christians regularly eat beef, even though that's deeply offensive to Hindus, but have no guilt in doing so.
But, if you do anything to offend the delicate sensibilities of Christians or Muslims, the best you can hope for is "that's not funny" and many of them don't even see the joke.
As Richard Dawkins said, "tread lightly, for you tread on my meme."
Why the double standard?

doublestandards throughout all of christianity.
you quote a verse or even a group of verses and you "took it out of context"
they quote a verse and its exactly as written, god meant it as that one verse stated it.
notice in the bible, murder is bad, yet god allows his chosen people to murder thousands upon thousands of others?

That's the need for political correctness--maybe not the need but rather the source. Two people with similar beliefs may not find the same thing offensive. If we eat beef purposely in front of a Hindu, that would be offensive. Talking about eating beef in front of two Hindus may have mixed reactions. Not a Christian/Muslim trait, but rather a human trait.

well you would need to be in a Christians or Muslims shoes to understand that. Also don't sterotype all Christians and all Muslims are always offended. Just for me, religion is sorta serious and is not to be made fun of or disrepected. There are the fun jokes and then there is that line people cross sometimes. This doen't mean though people need to go to the other extreme and always be serious and have an iron fist about it either.

I'm pretty sure you can take the piss out of Christians as much as you want now, but people draw the line at parodying or laughing at Muslim beliefs. It's not that weird though, seeing as their are many more Muslim extremists than Christian or Hindu extremists, in fact I've never really heard of one (or not comparable). People are just scared.

Please also be aware that a joke and being offensive are two different things entirely. Offensive is not funny unless you're dimwitted enough to laugh. True funny is never offensive. Like the question I replied to in the link above. Funny. Not offensive.

Do you really believe that only Christians and Muslims are easily offended when it comes to their beliefs? This forum does not prove that to be correct.

Christian and Muslim belief is wholly unfounded, and they rely on popularism. Therefore, they protect that popularism very strongly.

They're not comfortable with themselves. It really has nothing to do with the religion.
