My mom has cancer and needs people to help her do routine things. She does not need a nurse as of yet. She just needs for people to help her out around the clock. We have many people helping but it is just not enough. I am finding it hard to work and take care of her at the same time. Not to mention I have a 2 year old as well. I need to know if there is a way that I can stay home and take care of her and receive some sort of benefit. Thank you

Some care is predicated on whether the patient is considered terminal. Most Hospice programs cater to that category and are generally subsidized from Medicare. It is doubtful whether you can find a "program" that will pay you to care for her at home. If she is a homeowner with equity in her home it's possible that she could do a "reverse mortgage" and receive a monthly payment in order to subsidize her monthly expenses.

If you live in the states you can go to the department of social and health services. DSHS and they can help i believe with people that take care of an invalid for so many hours

What JustMe said about family medical leave act, aka FMLA. If you have health insurance thru your employer you should check with them or maybe your HR dept to find out more about FMLA. It would allow you to actually keep your job, but not have to work and be able to take care of a family member. Check out this site for more info: http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/fmla/ . Good luck!!

In Canada there is. If you're Cdn. contact HRDC. You can take up to a year's leave and qualify for EI (if you've paid) or be exempted from work programs with Welfare.
