Okay, maybe it's a stupid question, but you actually see your pool and lawn guys over the holidays? Where do you live? Luckily I only have to see my pool guy once a year when he rapes me up the butt for chemicals just because I'm too cheap to buy an air compressor and do it myself. I think there's no end to this "tipping", and you have to draw a line somewhere.

Yes, it is normal and usual to tip help - at least if you plan to have them stick around.
about 10% of what you pay them yearly... or at least a half monthly salary (aka, half of what you pay them in a month). Ex: if the lawn guy works 2x a week for 2 hours, for 20US an hour - that means 80 bucks a week, 320 a month - and a tip of about 150 US.

Or, next year you mown your lawn!!!

I think it's a nice gesture, if you feel they go out of the way for you. I am tipping our housecleaner with a $50 AMEX gift card, (we pay her $75 every other week).
