First of all, regardless of what "straight" said, out of the books in the New Testament, Revelations was written the last. http://www.bibletime.com/bible/order/introduction/index.html (This still doesn't negate the fact that the passage refers to the book of revelations and not the Bible.)
Second of all,
Cookie said, "The Book of Mormon actually helps validate the message of the Bible." No, it doesn't. Straight said, "Additionally, the Book of Mormon does not pervert or add to the Gospel." Yes, it does--the BOM changes the Gospel of the Bible! It doesn't make sense: How can they believe the core of the gospel was changed over time, yet believe that it still agrees with the Book of Mormon? It's not possible.
And in reaction to WW1flyingace: He tried to make a parallel between the Angel Moroni and the angel of Revelations 14:6. Revelations is a cryptic and thick book. Who actually understands Revelations in its entirety? No one! We can guess. But, we don't know which parts are literal or figurative. We don't know what the sea of glass mixed with fire is, or what the seven plagues will be, or even what the thousand years means-- So, taking one itty bitty part of the entire section and saying it proves that it refers to the angel moroni is leudicrous! Anyone can do that.
Mormons are guilty of backing up their beliefs with random passages that no one understands. Instead, they should find some solid scripture to back up their points.
Now, onto your question:
All of the above answers from Mormons are avoiding the most important part of this scripture in Galatians. "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a GOSPEL OTHER THAN THE ONE WE PREACHED TO YOU, let him be eternally condemned."
The thing Mormons are over-looking is that they do not believe in the gospel that the Bible preaches. (They believe that it was twisted and essential "truths" were lost. Meaning: MORMONS believe a gospel other than what the Bible teaches.) The Bible teaches that you're saved by your faith in Jesus & His grace--not by works (romans 3:20-31), that Jesus is God--not our spirit brother & Satan's (John 1:1), and that saying you'll become a God is simply blasphemous! (Genesis 3:5, Isaiah 14:13-14, Isaiah 44:6)
Mormons can't say they agree with part of the Bible (that if anyone preaches "a gospel other than the one we preached to you"), and turn around and say that they don't believe in the fundamental teachings of the Bible! They're simply picking and choosing what backs up their beliefs. You can't read the Bible with a black highlighter--taking and leaving what you want.
And that's the answer to your quesiton (about how Mormons believe in the Book of Mormon): they take the evidence that supports them (kind of--not even fully) and ignore the rest.

That's good. "The Bible says so plainly that it alone is the only authority." Now, where is the verse that says that? It couldn't be Rev. 22:18-19, because here John was only referring to the book called Revelation (and besides, if we are to assume that "adding to the word" means no more books of scripture, then why on earth did prophets and apostles write more books after Moses issued the same command in Deut. 4:2? It would seem that the Bible should have ended with the five books of Moses). It can't be Gal. 1:6-9, because here Paul is referring to the gospel (note that the word "gospel" as used in the Bible never refers to a book; it only refers to the message of God's plan for the salvation of mankind; Mormons believe that the Book of Mormon teaches the same gospel that is taught in the Bible). Keep in mind, too, that the Bible is really a collection of many books, and did not exist as one "book" until hundreds of years after the last book was written! You may not realize this, but by asking this question you are literally fulfilling a prophecy written in 2 Nephi 29. Finally, I would like to ask, what do Christians like you, who believe the Bible is the only "gospel" and that Paul precluded the angelic deliverance of any other "gospels", make of the prophecy in Rev. 14:6 which specifically states that the everlasting gospel would be delivered by an angel to be preached unto all the world?

How can the Bible say it's the only true source of scripture to itself, when all the books were written separately and then combined later to the Bible we have today. Not to mention the many books that weren't included in the bible.
Besides, we also believe in continued Revelation from God. How can his church be run correctly with continued guidance, by other scriptures and leaders. Sorry, although the Bible is great, it's not perfect (neither is the BoM) and we need guidance today to help us deal with the problems of today.
Sure apple your a good source being ex-LDS. Sorry you lost faith, looks like you lost proof too. Although you have a right to believe what you want, bring proof to the table if your taking that stance. How can "everyone" agree with the bible and still have so many different religions? Of course the gospel has changed, because man changed it with out direct guidance from God. What the LDS believe is that gospel didn't change, but everyone else changed around it, that is why there are so many different religions. in the end everyone has a right to believe what they want to believe. so if you believe that this religion isn't for you then fine chose another, we don't think any less. unlike other people

As you may know, Revelations was not actually the last written book, but just placed at the end of the Bible, so many other things/teaching/books were added to the Bible after Revelations, and I'm guessing you don't think those are incorrect or false. Additionally, the Book of Mormon does not pervert or add to the Gospel, and it certainly wasn't written to get the approval of men, as we can tell from your question. If God chooses to reveal his Gospel to this or that group who is to argue that only that which he revealed to the one group is correct and not the other. The Book of Mormon does not contradict or take away from the Bible, but is merely another witness and supports the Bible. God has always revealed his truths to mankind and will continue to do so.
I do understand it is a hard thing to believe, the whole God and Jesus appearing to a 14 year old boy and then having him bring back or restore God's church as it was set up in the time of Christ. But, if you believe that God answers prayers, which I do, and if you have prayed about Mormons, as I have, then you can't deny what God will tell you, and he has told me it's right.

I'm sorry, may I ask if you resist reading other books by your favorite author after you are done with the first one? You have read the Bible and may notice that warning also occurs in Deuteronomy 4:2, so does that mean everything after Deuteronomy should be ignored? Perhaps what all the warnings are about in the Bible about adding onto the books were warnings to those who wanted to add things in or take things out in order to confuse people. In that case, you are too late, and it has already happened in the centuries of the Dark Ages or around about that time. The Book of Mormon actually helps validate the message of the Bible. It may be that we have two legs to stand on, while if you stick to the Bible alone then you have only one leg to stand on. Why not have two witnesses that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God? It is important to get ready for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, so why not have as many people believe in Him as possible before that time? Two witnesses are stronger than just one. You know, it's like that old Doublemint commercial - two times the mint, or however it went. Have a happy day, and I send you a gummy bear.

Plainly to whom? You? That is your opinion and your interpretation, which we are all entitled to...
Funny that you claim it is a "different" gospel...here's your answer.
The phrases "the prophecy of this book," "the book of this prophecy," and "this book" refer only to the book of Revelation. At the time John recorded those words, the Bible did not exist; there were only separate scrolls for each book. The first bound Bibles do not appear until the fourth century A.D. Some of the earliest Bible manuscripts do not end with the book of Revelation and, in fact, some of them don't even include that book and omit other New Testament books as well. Moreover, similar warnings are found in earlier Bible books. For example, in Deuteronomy 4:2, we read, "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you" (see also Deuteronomy 12:12). While mortals are forbidden to add to the divine word, the Lord himself is not bound by such restrictions. God's word is revealed through prophets, and it is through prophets that he has always added to his own word. Thus, we read that, when the king had burned the words written by Jeremiah (Jeremiah 36:1-4, 23), the Lord commanded him to restore these words (Jeremiah 36:27-28). "Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides
unto them many like words" (Jeremiah 36:32).
I have never read the NIV, but I could likewise tell you "How can you not believe in the Book of Mormon when it is clearly the word of God?" I know that to be true, but does not mean you do. I can only tell you what I believe, I cannot TELL you you are wrong because you do not believe as I do...

The Bible is not the only authority of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is yet another testimony of Jesus Christ and his Gospel to man. It simply relates of different civilizations on a different part of the globe other than Jerusalem that followed and practiced the teachings of the Gospel.
Since quoting scripture is a catchy thing to do why not read Ezekial 37: 16-20? That prophecy has come true with the Stick of Judah being the Holy Bible and the Stick of Joseph being the Book of Mormon with both combining in full testimony of Jesus Christ.
God's children are all over the world and He intends to get His messages to them. John 3:16 does not say, "For God so loved Jerusalem . . . " The Bible as you know it isn't the only Word of God for mankind.
Get used to it.
Added note: I'm duly impressed by the positive replies given on this question by my brothers and sisters in Christ. What I didn't say, they did! If you're interested in what 2 Nephi 29 says about a literal prophecy taking place, consider reading it. It should open some eyes.

Galatians is a terrible example for Mormon bashers to use. Paul wrote that those who taught the gospel differently than he did were cursed. This is the very reason the church needed to be restored to the earth. Through centuries of apostasy the truth Paul taught was lost to the earth.
What did Paul teach in Galatians?
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
This words of Paul could have been echoed by Joseph Smith. Paul preached that the gospel had to be revealed by Christ and not a man or an angel. This is why we have additional scripture.
But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

This premise is false. Galatians is refering to the teaching that required gentiles to be circumcised. Revelations 22:18-19 is a warning not to add to John's book, not the Bible. Learn to read!

it incredibly is as complimentary to the Bible as Moby Dick is complimentary to the Bible. it incredibly is yet another e book, curiously comparable to it whilst it incredibly is sitting on a table. I actually have a annoying time respecting the Mormon doctrine because of the fact I even have incredibly examine it, as adversarial to being raised contained in the Mormon church and having it shoved into my suggestions very equivalent to a suppository is shoved into the anus. The e book of Mormon is a super gadget to greater effective comprehend the heretical ideals that have been held by using many early Christian communities (the 1st by using 4th century). I do in simple terms no longer comprehend the way Mormons can declare to be a monotheistic faith whilst their literature is something yet. i think it incredibly is like attempting to place a around peg right into a sq. hollow. The Mormon faith in simple terms does not in good shape interior the Christian faith. I do although would desire to grant props to Joseph Smith to being the biggest con artist who has ever lived. My father replaced into very antagonistic in direction of me asserting that Mormonism did no longer originate contained in the nineteenth century yet incredibly nearer to the 1st century. it incredibly is, although, a actuality. Joseph Smith ought to have had some style of know-how of the gnostics with a view to create such an problematic rip-off. The backyard of Eden replaced into no longer in Missouri, Jesus under no circumstances got here to the Americas, black human beings are not cursed by using G-d. Come on now Mormons. enable's initiate utilising our brains instead of our (expletive).
