Worst UK mainland posting is without a doubt Catterick. More squadies than locals and the night life is sh#te. Best posting I ever had was Chelsea barracks. Six months square bashing making sure no-one stole any public buildings with plenty of time to go sand ratting. Worst (excluding iraq or afghanistan) overseas posting is northern ireland because normal life goes on around you and most of the time you can see it but not participate because all the pubs are catholic or the alert states up. My dad says he nearly slit his wrists when after 6 months in the falklands he started getting attracted to the penguins but he was navy anyway so only to be expected.

Is there such a thing as a good posting for a squaddie? My cousin is a squaddie and he goes wherever the his Regiment goes - so he has no choice in the matter. I am so glad I joined the RAF - I have the freedom of choice

Hong Kong used to be the best posting in the World, but we gave it back to the Chinese, I would go for Cyprus as a pretty choice place to be posted now

hi ya not ripon its s**t or catterick, everyone tells me germany is the best place as there is more of a social life there, im still waiting to go!!! been stuck in ripon for 4 years and hubby has been cross posted here again :( but i know it depends on what you join up as so if its your first posting you dont get a choice

Not sure...but if you get a chance I'd like to request that you get into a big British army truck and drive into a big group of terrorists please! Just run them the hell over. Squish them.

It depends on you.
It also depends on your gender and Army trade, certain trades can't go to certain places.
Places you really dont want to go.
The Falklands, Bosnia, Serbia, Afghanistan, Iraq.
Oh, and Sardinia.
