No, it's not typical. Zucchini skin might be a bit on the bitter side, but the flesh should not be bitter at all.

Older specimens, and zucchini raised in soil with a high sulfur content can be a bit bitter, particularly in the skin.
An easy remedy is to shred the squash on a v-slicer or mandolin. (Julienne blade is the best), squeeze as much of the water out as you can and give it a quick stir-fry with a little olive oil, a dab of butter for flavor, a pinch of garlich and a touch of salt...
Not mushy, and the bitterness will largely go with the wrung-out water.

unless sthe zucchini is soft and mushy its fine to eat. sometimes it tends to get a bit bitter but its still good. We have zucchini here year round at times it does taste a bit bittery.

Any slight bitterness in a zucchini is usually in the skin which can be minimized by peeling if you wish or cooking longer.
