The Bible *doesn't* say it's wrong. So why did they always try to make us feel guilty?
Heck, I was told it was wrong to find women attractive- what a guilt trip to hang on a kid [just cos he has natural desires]

Yea, the big joke was that many of the women in the local Church were, litterally, half naked. Now try not finding that attractive. And then they give a kid a guilt trip when he, naturally, finds it attractive. It would have been bearable if they'd covered up.

Selar- that part of scripture, *only* talks about coveting your neighbour's wife; you *can* still desire an un-married woman.

Agreed.
Isn't it interesting that in a religion where you get saved by "faith", you still have to perform a certain amount of good works to qualify as a good Christian?
Organized religion has largely missed the mark on this one, which has resulted in a lot of unnecessary guilt and societal problems.

I've been masturbating since I was at least 5 or 6. I felt guilty about it back then, but I don't feel guilty now. I think the more you do it, the less guilty you will feel about it. You'll realize that it's natural and nothing to be ashamed of. Most people have masturbated, whether or not they admit to it.

Yeah I am a Christian and I actually agree with you to an extent. The bible says no fornicating, or conveting, and the fact if you think about doing something, the sin is already in you heart, so you are just as guilty if you dream about screwing the neighbors wife, as if you actually do it. Liscense to sin? No. Take away masturbation I do not think so either. Choose your fantasy topics more wisely, you can try. Do I think you will go to eternal damnation, hmmm I do not think so, but then again I am not God, nor the judge. Can masturbation be done per say with a clean thought, yes I think so.

The Bible does mention the sin of a man "spilling his seed" (Gen. 38:9, Leviticus 15). This has been interpreted as referring to "cloitus interuptus" but it would, logically, apply to masturbation as well. Why wouldn't it? For anyone to say it's not would definitely be reaching. However, despite that, there's nothing wrong with it. It's healthy, normal, and (BTW) girls and women do it, too. It seems to me that the only people/groups that would try to make boys and men feel guilty or "dirty" are religious groups.
-You were told it's wrong to find women attractive? Who told you that, a Catholic priest? (Sorry, Catholics, I couldn't resist. That was very, very bad.)

These people are generally filled with hate and a distaste for anyone who is not like them. They control their congregations through fear and guilt, and use the bible to justify whatever means they use to achieve their end.
I also believe some of these people are just plain jealous....so it makes them feel better to think they are somehow morally superior.
And the same verse that speaks of "already committing adultery in your heart" goes on to say "If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell."
So if we take this literally, you should gouge out your eyes for appreciating the physical beauty of anyone but your spouse.
None of us would have eyes if we followed this to the letter.

There are footnotes to the ten commandments in ways we break them and this sin belongs with thou shall not commit adultery and it is a mortal sin. That means it effects our relationship with God, it extinguishes the life of grace in the soul. Any sexual act outside the confines of matrimony without the openness to the transmission of new life is sinful.
It defiles your body
it is selfish pleasure
it is impure
the finality of the act has nothing to do with procreation only the satisfaction of oneself which has nothing to do with the Lords Will

I think the people who do that are sexually repressed themselves and are just passing on what they were taught.
I think some would say that anything you have to do in secret is wrong, but there is a big difference in doing things in secret and doing things in private. Masturbations falls into the category of something done in private, not in secret. How can it be secret when it is no secret that most people past puberty do it?
Masturbation is normal.

It isn't the act itself, the issue is that it often is accompanied by lustful thoughts, which Jesus said is adultery of the heart. That's why it should be avoided.
Personally, I think self-control is always good to have, since it's a fruit of the Holy Spirit, and it means that you'll reserve that pleasure for marriage, making your spouse the only person who's ever given it to you.

They do that because despite that naturalness of those sorts of things people feel that encouraging those sorts of things is wrong because they are rather prude.

It's not wrong to find a woman attractive.
The bible says to avoid ALL sexual sins. Masturbating is a sexual sin and therefore wrong.
