How about exposing them to kama sutra? Their response would determine whether they are up to the priesthood or not.

Just exactly what is a celibacy test ? How is it conducted ?
Your last sentence somehow gets by me. " It makes these people normal abnormal ". Also, what makes them normal abnormal ? The urge, the test, the celibacy ?

The only way to test if someone is going to remain celibate their entire life would be to "test" them for their entire life -- hardly practical.

Celibacy is a ridiculous imposition of messed-up christian ideas. It was only imposed on certain religious types when the idea of sex as something dirty and disgusting became dogma -- largely as a result of the teachings of Paul, but not accepted as doctrine until hundreds of years later. At the Nicene council in 325 AD, every single one of the "bishops" in attendance was married with children -- NONE of them were "celibate priests." That idea came from certain radical monastics who thought they could be closer to god if they withdrew from society and all sexual contact, and the idea later spread to the western Roman church. It's NEVER been effective, and NEVER been followed by anything more than a minority of church leaders, despite their public pronouncements to the contrary. History is rife with examples of "celibate" church officials siring illegitimate children and trying to cover the whole thing up.

What kind of test? Shove them in a playboy mansion, multiple choice, essay? Priests aren't just ordained overnight. they have to attend seminary school for a few years, and they are given the chance to say, at any time, this isn't for me. Many do drop out while in school, others drop out after being ordained. There is no test you can give them. They know, going into this, what is expected of them.

Benedict should simply change the rules to allow priests to marry and have sex. But the cardinals who elected him wanted to keep the status quo, so that won't happen in the near future.

What exactly would test your ability to be celibate? This is crazy! Nuns manage to keep theirs legs shut, preists should be able to keep it in their pants too. Masturbation is the responsible persons answer to sexual urges while pledging celebacy.

The Catholic church is currently recognized as one of the safest places for children. This is due to a strong will among church leaders to protect children. They offer a course on how to keep children safe, that all who would care for children as part of their service for the church -must- take.
