It's her first period, what can I do to make her feel more comfortable?
And it's my first dog, so I'm new to this too, any suggestions?
Thanks ;)

Just give her lots of love and puppy massages. Once she's through the heat cycle, have her fixed as soon as the vet says it's safe.

And be sure to keep her under your supervision at ALL times to prevent an accident - and do so until she is fixed.

Good luck to you and your pup.

Just let her do what she feels like doing. If that is lie around sleeping more than usual, then that's fine. And if you don't want puppies, then be sure to keep her away from male dogs while she is in 'heat' which is the technical term for a dog having her period. If you are not going to breed her, you might want to think about having her spayed. Not only will it keep her from messing up your furniture, carpet etc when she is in heat, but if she is not going to be bred, she will feel better and probably even live longer if you spay her. Even dogs are subject to hormone fluxuations that are not necessary they experience if you are not going to breed them

i think you dont need to worrying so much cause females dogs can get fix from the vet but might be cost so much money to get her sprayed ? well its normal for females dogs having thier first time period it just alike us ladies go threw every year or months . well boys doesnt needed hear that lol. but any how you cant do much about it expct having her takecare of her own self with her problem . but if you want to help her out you can just put her outside for while so you wouldnt have her stay inside and having bloods all over the house thats wont be good ideas . you can try to buy her some puppies diapers pads that she can sit down on or you can get her a dog diaper where she can wear with to stop the bleeding . where you can buy them form the pet markets or pet shop .

Dogs are more affectionate toward their owners or care givers when they are having a heat cycle, When the cycle starts, you see a bloody discharge which last up to 10 days, They are ready for breeding from that point and all the way up to their 21st. day of heat cycle.
You can do nothing to make her more comfortable . Keep a watch that she doesn't get an infection fram licking too much , Licking is normal as they do this to leep themselves clean. you may help a bit by applying pure petroleum jelly.
If you have no intentions of breeding her, I suggest that you have her syaded as this will keep her from developing some health problems associated with females.

I think the people that are commenting about dogs not having periods are ignorant! My friends dog was on her period. You can get her puppy pads and stuff. She just gave her a little more attention. It's like us... We like special attention when we don't feel well, dogs are like people! Also, I have 3 dogs and my pets have insurance! I would really recommend that. It can be pricey but it's well worth it. My babies are all current with shots and I have saved over $1000.00 on one dog in 6 months!!! My vet told me unless you are planning on breeding her you really need to think about spaying her! The sooner the better. This avoids cancer, and other health problems that may occur. I was so scared that my female wouldn't be able to carry puppies. There is always that risk that Mother's pass away while having puppies! Just remember, there are so many people breeding that you can always get another and that way your baby now won't have to suffer and you always have the option of expanding your family that way! Hope she feels better!

To start...don't let her around any male dogs unless you want puppies...she's in heat...they sell doggie diapers. Will keep her from making messes all over your house. Once she gets through it...I'd suggest having her spayed unless you want puppies...she'll go through this about 2 times a year. She's not uncomfortable...

One of the best things you can do believe it or not is to let nature take her course and to not interfere. Do not panic and remember that your puppy has natural instincts that automatically will tell her what to do. Instead of getting involved, you may just want to sit back and observe her, and if she ever gets to a point where she needs your assistance then you should offer it to her, but other than that you shouldn't get in the way. She will be just fine. Let me know how it works out.

Please spay your dog. Keep her in sight at all times as she is in heat and any intact males within a few miles will find her and try to breed with her. Most vets will spay even while the female is in heat. Otherwise you can attempt to use "doggy diapers" and will just have to deal with the mess.

Your dog is in ESTRUS, dogs don't get periods. Take the dog to the vets and have her spayed. You will never have to deal with this again and the dog will live a happier, healthier life. Good Luck.

Keep her confined or put dog britches on her. And keep her confined to the house unless you go outside with her (keep the pants on her also), unless you want puppies. Dogs CAN climb fences, believe it or not, when when they smell a female in heat! As far a comfortable...our dog never acted like anything was going on...
