jbog- i wear the veil, and it's not beacuse im ugly, it's about protection and preserving my modesty (beauty). i wouldnt want any stranger to look at me and stare at me, as sadly this happens in present days.

The veil itself will attract stare when used in a culture wherein it is not common.
This should be a challenge to you modesty, and making people understand you modesty, using the veil, and yet being approachable, is a wonderful demonstration.
Don't you think?

Why does a bride at a Christian wedding wear a veil?? Why does a Priests wear an outfit like a KKK gown!! If Western women want to go around with their boobs etc hanging out (as if they are on sale), so be it! I am not Muslim, I'm atheist, this doesn't mean that I don't have any self respect! Unlike a lot of Western women!! I don't like any religion Whether it may be Muslim Christian or any other, I think they are all nutters!! As for Jack Straw, the only reason he raised the point was to get a few sympathetic ears, he is just another politician on the make, and in my opinion he is way up in the top 10 creeps in government at the present time. By all means bash religion but lets bash it all, I think I will start a Bash the Christians week, yes great idea ! I think its very intimidating seeing a guy walking the street wearing a white plastic dog collar!! is it some sort of fetish?? What does he really get up to at night, any whips involved?? Or choir boys???

If it was a cultural norm in the US, it probably wouldn't bother me much, but as it is, it's kind of scary to have people hiding their faces. In the Western way of socializing and communicating, we need to see faces to understand people. A covered face hinders communication. And in the US, we have the theoretical equality between men and women. Men with covered faces are VERY scary.
But I'll try to stick to the question.
The message that I get personally from a woman with a covered face is that this is a person who does not want to interact AT ALL.
That's okay with me. I can respect the privacy of other people. But here is what other people will need to respect about ME: I can't trust a person whose face I can't see. I won't talk to a person with a covered face, won't be even commonly courteous to a person who wears a mask. In fact, I will make every effort to act as if I neither see or am seen by people who wear masks in public.
I have nothing whatsoever against Muslims. I just don't trust people who hide.

No I don't feel intimidated by a Muslim woman wearing a veil. Why would I? Do you? To me it's like asking white person if they cross to the other side of the street when they see a black person approaching. What's the purpose in this question other than to invoke stereotypes and racists comments?

Firstly, unless you are cleopatra, please don't complain about people staring at u.
Secondly, I do not feel intimidated by women who wear the veil. I grew up in a school that had lots of muslims. But how do we know that its a woman, and not a man with explosives hidden under the black cloth?
