A crew is tearing down walls and pulling up floors in my building today and there is dust in the air. My eyes and throat are stinging. I have a dry, gritty feeling in my lungs. What can I do to protect myself (beside leave the premises which is nt an option)?

I can really only say that the other person is right...but really you should leave....but if you cannot go to Walgreen's, Kroger, Wall-mart or Duane Reade and you can by surgical masks. Also if you have any Albuterol Liquid or Inhalers you can use that and that will help. If you have a nebulizer then you can use it for a treatment...you need to go get checked out by a doctor though because it could be more serious than you think.

don't suppose you have a respirator in your drawer, or even a surgical mask. Unless you really want to feel as you do and maybe even get seriously ill from it, you need to leave. You have a valid reason for leaving, and your boss can't argue it either.
