I just finished a medical terminology class....tricho means hair and mania pertains to the mind. This isnt a problem that is going to go away on it's own. It's phsycolocical and she is doing as a direct result of some kind of turmoil she can't work through. She will continue to do it and it will probably get worse. You need to take her to a specialist. They will check to see if it is a neurological disorder or if it is all phsycological. She may need to see a therapist.

I am sure that everyone here will have a different opinion on this matter. I would try to consult someone who is more qualified to deal with this sort of thing. Ignoring it is not the answer, or waiting for it to stop. I have six kids and not one of mine ever did anything like that....phase or otherwise. As a parent you have every right to be concerned. I think that it could be something that a physician could help you with. I wouldn't from experience take one opinion on this. You know your child better then anyone else. Take what the doctor tells you and apply your mothering skills.....together you can help your daughter. Good luck and best wishes.

I am not sure how it is treated, but my husband done this when he was little, and eventually grew out if it. I hope that maybe it is just a stage for your daughter. Has she been diagnosed? Maybe you can try putting her hair up in something, or put her to sleep with something [stuffed animal, etc.] that is "hairy" so that she will pull on it instead of her own. If the behavior continues I would see a doctor about it. I hope this helps and God Bless.

Ask a doctor. Don't just try to guess or take advice from people on this site who have no idea, it will just make you worry more. It could be a phase or a problem much deeper. ask a professional
