Start off making a purple and gradually add your green. I suppose that will make black...or something close to it. Easier (well, unless you're trying to frost a cake in the next hour or so) is to go to a craft store and buy black vegetable dye.

Just watch out...dark colors stain the inside of a person's mouth. Not very appetizing. Good luck!

It's kind of a purple-black, but it works. Equal parts red, green and blue; half the amount of yellow. Can't get more specific than that, don't know how much frosting you have. Just keep madding it until it's dark enough for you. It will cure a bit as it sits and get deeper in tone. Just keep the surface covered with plastic wrap til you're ready to work with it.

Mixing all those colours to get black is too complicated and your frosting will taste too much like the food colouring. The best way to get black is to buy a black food colouring and start with a dark chocolate based frosting. It's still difficult to achieve the desired black but it's mush easier and tastes better than mixing colours.

I have black liquid food colouring and havn't had to buy it for a long time but if you can find black paste or gel colouring, they achieve a more intense colour with greater ease.

As an artist, I know that you can not make black our of the above food colorings. The closest you could come would be a mixture of blue and green with a bit of red (drop by drop)....best you'll get is a muddy gray.

Find a local store that specializes in cake decorating and/or candy making supplies. They carry actual black food coloring paste....I make Harley Cakes all the time and that's what I do...but be forewarned: like every other color, it will make your tongue change color! :))

You don't make black - nowadays it's considered one of the Primary colors.
