Try some herbal tea, it is called Chamomile sleepy time tea. My daughter and I drink it a few hours before bed. Also, stop doing everything in your bed, eating, watching TV. Your bed is for love making and sleeping only. That also causes trouble sleeping.

Good Luck

I work nights and had a problem staying sleep most of the day. I purchased Tylenol PM-Simply Sleep. According to the package "OTC Ingredient/Pharmacist Preferred". I believe I paid less than $7.00 for 24 caplets at 25 mg each. Also according to the box: Safe, Non-habit forming.

Ingredients (each caplet): Diphenlydramine HCI 25 mg.......Nightime sleep aid.

Tylenol Telephone No. for questions: 1-877-895-3665
----------------------
It took me about 1 hour and 15 minutes before I fell asleep and when I did awake during the 8 hours, I fell right back to sleep which is what I liked because normally when I do awake, I can't fall back to sleep. I took two caplets but next time I think I will try 1 or 1.5.

Best of luck

There are several medications you can take, but what you need to find out is exactly what is keeping you awake! Ambien is a prescription medication that alot of people take. This medication only helps thoughs who can not sleep because of minor pain or minor depression, though. Vicodin relieves severe pain and if taken onlly during the evening can help you get good sleep. The medication I take for sleep is Seroquel; This helps me get 6-8 hours sleep every night/day. I do not only take this medication for sleep though. I also take this for severe depression and bipolar. I have had sleeping problems for ever. One thing that I have learned by Doctors is; do not take the pill until I get tired. If you take a sleeping medication before you are tired, one of two things can happen. #1 you could wined up sleeping too much (several times during the day and all night long) and this isn't healthy for you. #2 You could ended up addicted to the medication and after six or so months the medicine will not work for you any longer. You need to talk with your Doctor about both of these medications and he should be able to tell you which one would be better. Do not try the over the counter medications, they only work for a couple of days and then either stop working or start making you sick. Talk to your Doctor!!!

Have you had a thyroid function or anemia test? Or are you suffering from a little anxiety or depression?
If you don't have any health issues, then try any of the following health food store alternatives: Relora, valerian, chrysanthemum teas, chamomile tea or tincture. Also, I find that a cup of warm milk with 1 tbsp honey, and a banana on the side, taken an hour before bedtime, help me sleep very deeply. It also helps to make sure that you finish eating supper two hours before bedtime. In those two hours, avoid any kind of major physical exertion.

Any of the remedies in the above answers will treat the symptoms, but you need to address the cause of the problem (health, mental, stress, etc.)

Lack of sleep is proven to cause premature age (wrinkles, grey hair, etc..) mental instability (at least that is what the little voices are telling me ) and weakness and the usual sluggish responses.

Go see the appropriate professional to get help on this.

Try melatonin, it is the natural chemical your brain releases to put you to sleep.

Or get some more exercise and eat better, cut the caffeine out of your diet.
