Porridge is a simple dish made by boiling oats (normally crushed oats, occasionally oatmeal) or another cereal in water, milk or both. Oat and semolina porridge are in many countries the most popular varieties. Some other cereals used for porridge include rice, wheat, peasemeal, barley, and cornmeal.

In many cultures, it is eaten as a breakfast, often with the addition of sugar or cream.

Fruity Porridge

Ingredients

1/2 cup of porridge
1 cup of soya milk
handful of sultanas
1 banana
sugar

Add 1/2 cup of porridge and 1 cup of soya milk together in a microwaveable dish or a saucepan. If making in the microwave cook for 2 mins on 800 then stir and add more milk if required and put back on for a further 2 mins. If cooking in a saucepan put on a medium heat and keep stirring all the time until the porridge starts to bubble.

Line the bottom of a bowl with thinly sliced banana and pour the porridge over the top. Add a handful of sultanas (washed in hot water to make them swell) and stir. Put a layer of sugar on the top for a crunch when you eat. Perfect for those cold winter mornings and healthy for the kids too if you leave off the sugar.

A traditional SCOTTISH dish (popular also in Ireland and, less, in England), that contains no other cereals than oat flakes. They were originally cooked slowly in water or water and milk in the evening and warmed up before breakfast. Today there are porridge mixtures that can be cooked quickly.
Porridge is usually served with milk, sometimes cream. Various things can be added. I really like it with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.

It is oatmeal boiled in water or microwaved with milk ( I like it with the milk, its creamier that way). Then when its done you add butter and brown sugar and some more milk. MMMM
