this is my first time using a TLR camera, and my photo teacher told me i had to crank the film to advance it, and it'll stop when it's done. my camera doesnt have a crank, it has a knob with "10, 16, 25, 32, 50, 80, 100, 200, ASA" on it which advances it. I loaded the 120 roll film and advanced it..but it just kept advancing. When am i supposed to stop?

This is an extremely primitive film advance!

I believe you need to look at the little red window on the back of the camera. And advance the film until the little number '1' appears. Once you take your photo, then you turn the knob until a 2 appears. Repeat this cycle until all 12 or 24 photos are used up.

Then you advance the film until it has rolled off the original spool and onto the take up spool. Remove the take up spool and tape it so that it doesn't unwind. Then you move the original spool to the take up spool position and when you add a new roll of film, it becomes the new take up spool.

Some 120 cameras has a little window in the back, where you see the numbers 1, 2, 3, etc.after a few arrows appeared telling you the numbers are coming.
Also, when you load the film is a big arrow that you have to match with other in the body of the camera, at this moment you close the hatch and look trhough the window until the arrows and the first number appear.
I could not give you more info because I do not know the brand or your camera

Yashica C: Shutter speeds expanded to 1 second through 1/300, and it also offers semi-automatic film advance - to advance the film, you press a button on the advance knob and then advance the film. The camera will automatically advance to the next frame. The lens is Yashikor, and offers XM sync.

I just bought a Yashica EM (mfg 64-66) and it has a crank, You can go on line and find a manual to the camera from a site that has Butkus on it, just type "camera manuals" into Google.

I have downloaded manuals from cameras made ages ago.

Go to this site:

http://www.butkus.org

and I think you will find that there are few differences between the C and the D. Download the D manual instructions.
