If you go through your local agency where children are already free to be adopted...meaning parental rights have been terminated or will be soon, it's free. Down side to this is that you will more than likely NOT get an infant. There are rare chances of this happening...but not too many. If you are looking into a local agency to be "chosen" by a pregnant mother, I would say costs if any to the birth mother for expenses incurred due to the pregancy itself...clothing / hospital / midwife...etc, plus a small fee for the agency and then your attorney to actually make the adoption legal! My guess = 10,000 - 15,000

I don't know much about Canadian adoptions, but here in the US, it depends on which agency you go through. Most of them will have fees you have to pay. I know one that doesn't. No matter if it's agency or private, you need an attorney. Once again, in the US that's usually around $500.
