I think we are getting out of hand with religions getting offended that one religious icon gets more "Airtime" than others...i want to sponsor a bill that registers The Christmas Tree and Santa as commercial Icons only NOT religious symbols...because as you know jesus never had a christmas tree...and santa was a dutchman!! I hate that you set up a christmas tree in certain areas because one religion or another gets offended......Leave The Commercial Christmas Alone!!! Enjoy your own religion...but leave my presents out of this!!!

While I agree with you about the use of these icons, I could not support your bill for several reasons.

1. It violates the first amendment on freedom of speech grounds as well as on freedom of religion grounds.

2. It is unenforceable

3. I do not believe in legislating everything that I think is a good practice.

I agree. Santa is not Jesus, the Christmas tree is not a cross.

When I hear people say that Christmas trees aren't really religious I just laugh. Though it has its origins in Pagansim, Christians have adpoted the tree completely and it will never be seen otherwise anymore.

If you look at the people who get upset when a Christmas tree is forced to be taken down somewhere, It's 99% Christians and no one else.

yes i agree that those icons should be allowed for christmas, as they arent taken for their literal meanings anymore. santa clause is a big fat guy in a red suite who gives presents, and the tree is just a tree....

people need to stop whining about everything, and those that use it, need to stop pretending its everything to do with their religion.

ive seen people try to explain how the tree is a christian symbol and such. people dont know history much i guess.

Certainly, Im all for it.

After all, our Govt should be spending tax dollars and fighting the murder of Commercialized Xmas instead of wasting it on things like figuring out an exit strategy for Iraq, how to deal with North Korea and Iran, and how to feed our own starving people......

I agree. The tree and "Father Christmas" (or "Grandfather Yule") are syncretistic symbols appropriated by Christian culture but with roots in the pagan past. No one should be offended by them, since they're claimed by Christians, pagans, and secularists alike.

I would rather we didn't waste time in congress with Christmas trees and Santa Claus. We've go much bigger issues to deal with right now.

i totally agree with you.....santa and the christmas tree have nothing to do with the religion part of christmas...to me people who worry about trying to change things like this have way too much time on their hands and need to let people express what they want and believe what they want...if you dont then dont pay attention to it!!!!
