I am hunting for a good, but not too personal gift that will still show that I thought about what I was giving and not cost a ton! I know basic interests in music, books and movies, so is that a good route to go?

Well, whatever his heart desires, just ask what he would rather have than anything in the world that isn't to expensive. Watch his eyes light up and a smile appear on his face and his eyes get glassy and he says real low a mickey mouse watch.

absolutely! find out what intersests the person and give them something related to that. or gift cards make a wonderful gift, so they can buy what they want
