What do you recommend? Excessively dry itchy to point of opening skin?

I recommend Eucerin or Cetaphil for super-dry skin.

I do NOT recommend anything from Bath and Body works. Their products contain alcohol, which will dry out your skin even more.

Vaseline will also work if you can stand it on your skin.

Good luck!

Try using a lotion that is very thick. This will keep your skin moisturized longer. Jergens is a great product, and I normally use that or Nivea's body cream, especially during harsh winter weather.
Another tip: Buy some baby oil. You can choose to do this twice a day, or just at night, but when you get out of the shower, BEFORE drying off with a towel, rub baby oil all over your body, and then pat dry. This makes your skin very smooth and is a great way to moisturize dry skin.

good luck!

Use a lotion that comes in a tube or jar because they are thicker. I like body butter from the Body Shop. It is really thick and works better than anything else I tried. You may also want to pick up a humidifier for your bedroom. Between the cold weather and my forced air heat it is difficult for me to find relief from my dry skin, but ever since I've used body butter and a humidifier I've had pretty soft skin for the first time in my life. Another good thing to do is slap on a jar of Vaseline before you go to bed a couple of nights a week and it will heal your skin in no time. If feels gross, but it works!

I use Vaseline Deep Moisture cream--it comes in a tube and I find it at Target. I rub it on whatever areas on my body are dry (my hands are the worst, especially in winter, because I work in a hospital and am always washing my hands) when I go to bed at night, and when I wake up they're much softer.

I use Norwegian Formula! It rocks!

However, I've never had broken skin... Maybe Gold Bond, it's medicated.
