For many years - possibly centuries - convents were actually brothels. That is one reason why Calvin separated from the church and started his own religion. There is a seminary in Washington that has 2 different compounds on it. At one time one was a seminary and the other was a convent. Many years later when they sold it and it was renovated they found skeletons of buried fetuses. I wonder how infanticide sits with their other vows.

Well, not *all* religious women in biblical times were temple prostitutes -- although there absolutely *were* temple prostitutes. :)

I wouldn't call nuns "prostitutes" -- but history is rife with verified stories of nuns being used as sex objects by priests and monks, by nuns willingly participating in sex with priests & monks...
There have been several cemetaries & crypts found related to nunneries that contained the buried bodies of children born to nuns (usually with priests as the fathers) that were murdered after birth so that appearances of celibacy could be kept up.
Of course, not ALL nuns or priests participated in such things -- but they're all just humans like everybody else, *of course* there were those that had sex, had kids, and hushed it all up.

Not all religous women in biblical times were temple prostitutes...you are making an assumption without sufficent research. There were the Vestal Virgins who dedicated themselves to Vesta and who lived lives of solititude doing good works and praying for the believers. The Catholic nuns are most like the old Vestal Virgins, although you do not have to be virgin to be a nun, but you must make a vow of celebacy (chastity) in order to become a nun.

The pagan religions of Rome, Egypt, Greece, and Palestine had religious prostitution as one of their forms of worship. Judaism expressly forbade prostitution in ALL its forms. The Jewish religion had no prostitutes in any of its true worship of YHWH.

Nuns have taken "orders", a special relationship with God, exempting them from human marriage. They are in effect married to God and the Church. Sex is something they have willingly given up. Prostitution is NOT part of any form of Christian worship.

Who said they were all prostitutes? I can only wonder where you got your information. I don't believe that to be true. Perhaps studying more on the subject would help you gain a better insight. As a matter of fact your statement has caused me to think about doing more indepth research. Not that I want to find they were but to be able to show they were not.
