I was in a car accident 4 years ago. I was a size 1 or 3, then I went up to a size 13. I've finally worked my way down to a 3 or 5. I'm fine where I am know, I just can't stand my stomach fat. I was wondering if the sugar from my coffee was causing me to not lose my stomach fat? If exercising is the only cure to this, what should I be doing? Do the products they sell on T.V. actually work? I just want to lose my gut? If anyone could send me any information on these questions, I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks!

Well the caffeine in coffe, just like the nicotine in cigarettes, will delay your recovery dramatically. I was in a car accident too and that was one of the first things they told me "stop smoking, don't drink coffee".

The sugar also isn't good for you. Most bleached anything, like white bread and sugar, are bad for your body. But going on diets like Atkins is worse for you. If you cut all carbs out completely your body will not work correctly and you begin to reject things your body needs. My grandmother was a diabetic and went on Atkins, after losing too much weight she wanted to start eating normally again. She had a side helping of pasta with her meal and some cookies after. She later went into a diabetic coma after eating and is now no longer with us. So please don't believe people about this diet, it's not healthy and it can be the worst thing for you.

You also really don't need to buy anything off the computer to excersize with, just do some crunches when you wake and that will get your matabilsm going good. Especially if you are already tiny to begin with now, you don't need much get your body jump started.

Good luck! And congrats on losing all that weight!!!

OK, have you ever gotten the nutritional information for whatever you drink at Starbucks? It's frightening. Depending on what you have there, it could be almost 4,000 calories. No joke. So, take that, multiplied by however many times you drink it a week. In other words, yes. It could be causing you to retain your belly fat.
If you want to do something effective about it, stay away from the TV ads. Go to a GNC, or whatever you may have, and get some conjugated linoleic acid supplements. It is designed to target belly fat. Also, drink more water. At least 64 ounces a day.
Good luck!

I would guess coffee is playing a role in that. The sugar is bad for many reasons, and I would guess that the caffeine is putting some stress on your system. The stress of the accident may linger, also. There are products that will help but everyone is different. Each supplement and every exercise has its costs and/or risks, even if the cost is only in time spent. I would definitely suggest a good multivitamin and calcium/magnesium and/or zinc if their not each in the multi. And try to get your omega-3 requirement daily. The B's in the multi are good for stress and energy level.

As for the correct exercise, generally you want to 1)frequently hit a very high pulse rate by exercising, and hold it for 20-50 minutes and 2)build your core strength while keeping your posture roughly balanced. Something like ashtanga yoga would do both i guess, and otherwise stairmaster/weight training would be perhaps optimal. Swimming is outstanding and if your joints are up to it, jogging. Walking is a good stretch. T'ai chi is always worth looking into.

Make sure your diet is well thought out.. .perhaps consult a nutritionist. You might carefully try experimenting with ginseng pills.

If it is plain coffee and none of that fance stuff then it may be hurting a little. If it is some of the frappuccino's they can have as many as 500 calories for the med. size ones. To get rid of the stomach fat you should do old fashioned crunches or situps, try to do as many as you can in the morning and at night. This will get rid of it, but it will take time. Congratulations on losing that much weight. I am proud of you. I know that takes a lot of dedication. I am trying to do the same myself.

Generally coffee has caffeine which can increase your metabolism which can actually help you lose weight. If you use a lot of sugar though, you might be reversing the effects of the caffeine. Maybe try artificial sweeteners in your coffee. Personally I think Splenda tastes the most like sugar. If you are really bound to lose weight though, your best bet is good diet and excercize (I bet you've never heard that one before).

Check out the starbucks website and look up the nutritional info on your favorite drinks. Some of their beverages can have more calories than a fast food meal.
