I am a machinist and have been trying to find some sort of blueprint for a REAL tattoo machine, not some jail house made one using a toothbrush and a bic pen. All I have is pictures and would like to have actual specs to speed up the process so I don't have to use the trial and error method to make everything fit. Does anyone know where I can find what i am looking for? My goal is to make a few quality machines to make some side money and maybe trade for free ink.

i would suggest buying a tattoo magazine, they have adds in there to buy tattoo guns, if you can contact the manifactur company you may be able to find out how to make one. Of you can buy a tattoo gun and then take it apart to see what you need to make one.

Well, someone HAS to make them...but usually people who are very familiar. But you should probably get a real one and study it, learn to take it apart and put it together. You need to right kind of materials...

That's all I am going to tell you, my boss and I work on them all fo the time, it's a lot of work, but it's neat. He has made thousands of machines over the years and sold them... he can make damn fine machines.. You need to be able to make good machines to trade liek that. you can always see if a local artist is willing to give you tips...etc..

You have to know your stuff. Just like the 'how to set up a machine' question, I don't like going into detail about it, because you need to be a tattooist to think of doing tattoos, and learn it from you "master" in an apprenticeship. Can't give all of the trade secrets away, now, can I? ;-)

Best advice I can give you is to actually buy a tattoo gun and then make a copy of it with your own modifications. I have one and I couldn't tell you exactly what to do without taking it apart... which I'm not going to do (I might not be able to put it back together!) Try www.superiortattoo.com you should be able to find one for around a hundred bucks- and you might be able to return it if you're careful about opening the box and all- check their return policy!

You can, but wouldnt work the way youre thinking about, tattoo machines kind of "inject" ink into your skin, so you would still be adding ink to the skin. Thats why you brush the ink on removable tattoos
