This Christmas a video game based on the "Left Behind" series called "Left Behind: Eternal Forces" is in stores. In it gamers are ordered to convert or kill in order to re-model America as a Christian-controlled state, and establish its world vision of Christ's dominion over all aspects of life.

I am aware that video games are design to role play a fantasy world that should not be confused with reality. I just thought the contradiction between a religion that claims to be about love and peace vs. a game about murdering people who don't share your beliefs is wrong. Makes me wonder about how Christian Christians who play it are.

YDoncha--its easily available online.

Sounds like it is offensive to Christians, non-Christians and everyone except teenagers who love this stuff.

Sounds a lot like the Crusades in that the Christian is supposed to be the victor. However if one should adhere to the teachings of the Bible, then we are not to kill and you can't force a person to truly believe in your way of thinking simply by killing someone. They may tell you they believe but why would anyone want to really follow a path that could possibly lead them to murder someone else? Sure there are murderers in the world, but not everyone is. Yes it is in very bad taste. Christians are not supposed to use killing as method of convincing one to follow Christ.

There have always been games with Christian influence. I have a game on my NES called Bible Buffet. There was another one available with Moses. I have The Bible Game on my PS2. This is nothing new.

By the way, I'm not a Christian. I play games like that for their humor value...and there's a lot of it.

Horrifyingly inappropriate. It is really sad how you can label something 'Christian' and people will uncritically snap it up off the shelves. The church is not meant to be good for business and certainly not for entertainment rooted in murdering people. Church communities have worked themselves up into a boycotting frenzy over less - perhaps this one will be avoided too?

Jesus made it very clear that Christians were not to try to take over the world by force.

Matthew 26:50-56 (New International Version)
50b Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.

52"Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?"

55At that time Jesus said to the crowd, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. 56But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.

Luke 22:49-51 (New International Version)
49When Jesus' followers saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, should we strike with our swords?" 50And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.

51But Jesus answered, "No more of this!" And he touched the man's ear and healed him.

John 18:36
Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews [that is, by the Jewish authorities]. But now my kingdom is from another place."

Jesus did tell us to go make disciples all over the world, but this is by testimony, prayer, and by the power of God's Spirit, not by human force.

Well, personally I think that this is the exact type of thing and the type of misguided zeal which supports it what turns other Christians to atheism or paganism. Realistically, the bible says that God's gonna take care of the whole Armageddon thing anyway so if that's the case, why worry?

I had read some of the LB series and thought that overall it was accurate to what the Bible says about the end times but very presumptuous in the methodology surrounding the events. I find this game disturbing. I liken this to Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ (his last great work in punditry before his drunken tangent about the Jews), an over-zealous, right-wing extremist, unnecessarily violent and misguided interpretation and justification of the beliefs of the author, not Christians in general.

BTW this is no different that a game that would encourage Muslim Jihad or a game exploring the 'good points' of the Spanish Inquisition, the Holocaust, or WW3 (Mr. Bush and Mr. Clinton already set the stage for that). I see people who think like this as the real means by which the world would end, people trying to play god, false prophets who believe they can interpret God's will as their own.

I also believe that the next generation of gamers will turn out screwed up enough without being awarded 'spirit points' to execute innocent victims (I mean 'crusade against godless barbarians' such as rockstars, muslims, and jews). But wait, if you get too carried away you may lose 'spirit points' as this could displease God. So slaughter the infidels but make sure to keep your kill count under a million or so and remember to pray, after all the gates of hell can only handle so much traffic and God likes to keep the lines short.

This game is about killing infedels in the name of God, an ideology that we're hypothetically fighting against in the Middle East (but actually it's what we're fighting for, just look at what happened to the Abu-Graib whistle blower, betrayed by the very people he served). I can see why Wal-Mart and Uncle Sam would like this game. It will create a new generation ready to die for their country in the name of God while selling millions of copies to make the greedy bastards who own this country rich. Hell, after losing some limbs you might even get to come out of the army and work for Wal-Mart.

Also, I do not find blood or gore in games objectionable, that's why people play games, to kill people and blow sh*t up and get a high score. I actually think this decreases violence since it allows people to 'take it out' on the game. Unless you were playing a game about the old testament, the Bible just doesn't make for that kind of excitement. If the makers of this game really believed what Jesus taught (forgiveness of sin, love for humanity before self, peaceful and prosperous existence, etc.) they wouldn't have made it.

Pride, lust and greed will lead this inevitably world to ruin, just look at who owns the corporations that run our government (mostly Satanists pretending to be Christians or Jews)... but, friendship and trust will rebuild it anew and all the devil's labor will be in vain. Rebuilding after destruction will require working together with all persons without prejudice. In 1,000 years Wal-mart will be nothing more than a bad memory- similar to Rome, a remnant of how humanity nearly destroyed itself and a testament to mortal greed and stupidity. Maybe we'll get the lesson right this time (Rome had many great business institutions and practiced slavery similar to Wal-mart, yet today I can not find anyone including the most learned of scholar that recalls the names of these companies lost to the ages).

I am ashamed and angered that to truly be a Christian means being lumped in the same pot as cold-blooded snakes like these who treat people like numbers and bring hate and judgment upon the world. I believe in Jesus Christ redeemer of sinners, teacher to tax collectors and prostitutes, and the man who took a whip to the temple of sin knowing it would cost him his life. I believe in what he stood for and could care less about religion and am angered at man's manipulation of God.

Sounds like a game i researched years ago, cant recall the game... but i do know the game was produced by a company called RENEGADE, which as far as my research took me, was partially funded by the KKK and as follows your desciption of yours compared to the one i researched.

The main issue in the game i found was to install white supremacy against Jews and Black people.

Then you have to wonder about the golden rule and if it has any purpose in the world today...Treat others how you would want to be treated, and judge not lest ye be judged...

I think religion is turning into the Spanish Inquisition all over again...yay.
