All I can say is "I LOVED IT", the movie was funny, dramatic, exciting, romantic (Jaguar paw loved his family so much he couldn't let anybody kill him,he had to go back to save them) .There was a lot of blood but that's probably what it was like back then. I can't wait till it comes out on DVD, it's going in my collection!

On the Fox news just this morning

Apocalypto is the movie at the top of the box office this past weekend

Also....in a survey of favorite actors...Mel Gibson came in number 7 even after all the stuff he's been doing lately.

Well, if you're looking for info on Mayan culture, you're likely to be disappointed. I was. I really liked the movie, but when they were taken into the Mayan city, nobody explained anything that was going on. You see a bunch of people doing all kinds of strange things, but nobody said what they were doing or why. I was disappointed in that. But other than that, it was well done. I enjoyed it. But I can't say that I saw anything that I would term to be racist.

The people in the forest were a hunter/gatherer society. They were peaceful, liked to have fun and joke around, loved their families. They had strong connections to the land and were very spiritual people. The people in the city seemed to be sick and twisted, but I saw that more a commentary on "civilization" rather than the Mayan race. They had polluted thier land and their water, they were physically sick from it, their religion had become twisted and barbaric -- empty violent ritual with no real spirituality.

But when the white men came, they weren't portrayed as 'saving the barbarians' or anything like that. They really weren't portrayed at all - they played no significant part in the movie. In fact, at the very beginning of the movie, the quote said "No great nation can be conquered from without until it has first destroyed itself from within" or something similar to that.

I saw the movie as a commentary on American politics, big business, and religion. We've lost our connection to the land and to spirituality, we've become brutal and violent, and we are destroying ourselves from within.

sweet movie! i got kinda winded and needed to take a break after all those running scenes. wasn't that prophetic girl with the sores freaky? what was cool was since it was a movie you knew it was going to happen. anyone else like the ominous foreshadowing in the story the elder told?

yes I saw it. I didn't finish watching it since I pretty much got the message and the rest would have been about other things I wasn't looking for.

Review:
very bloody
a different approach to a very old subject
some humor, sadness, and a lot of human qualities

Propaganda. It makes the natives look like violent people that "needed to be saved" instead of what really happened. Mel is not happy just hating Jews, he is going after everyone.

I didnt see it simply because I do not support the Mel Gibson industry. Otherwise I hear it is quite good from my friends.
