I am the same as you. I think it is similar if you get the hidden valley ranch powder packet and make it with buttermilk. That way it is runny like the restaurants.

Many groceries stores carry a powdered version of Ranch Dressing. Then you can add mayonaise or sour cream to make it the consistence you desire. In fact this was the only version for years before Ranch came out in a bottle.

Most restaurants use a food service company when buying the products consumed by their customers. Find a restaurant where you like the dressing, and ask the manager who their supplier is. You may be able to buy some from either the restaurant or the supplier, but be aware that they buy it by the gallon, not the pint. Commercial food service companies to not sell small sizes of anything!

Most restaurants buy pre-made dressing from their suppliers, which is not all that different from what you get in the store. Better places buy packets of spice mix which they prepare with fresh buttermilk. You an also make it from scratch - one recipe is at

(there are certainly others out there).

I wouldn't keep it longer than a week in the fridge.

P.S. ya know who has a GREAT bottled Ranch dressing? MARIES and T. MARZETTI. It is in the refrigerated section by the bags of fresh salad. Try those if you haven't.
