i have a 2 1/2 year old an a 4 month old baby and i rarley go outside since i had the baby plus when i was pregnant, but i get out the coloring books and crayons and scribble with her. get out the good ol blocks and build stuff with her some other ideas are go on the computer and go to a kid web site like nickjr.com or noggin.com because she's into dora the explorer and the backyardigans its a great site for her to watch videos and she thinks shes doing something with the computer. the games on there arn't too good since she really don't know how to use the mouse and click so i let her point to them and i click the for her with the mouse. let them help u clean house. let your child vaccume or learn to sweep the floor just little stuff like that

If you can stand the noise, give her your pots and pans and a wooden spoon. She will play for hours "cooking", drumming, etc.

You might also try "measuring" rice. Put rice in a big pot (or even better put rice and baby in a baby swimming pool). Give her cups, etc to pour, dig, wiggle her fingers in, etc.

Get out her favorite book and read it over and over. some of our favorites were "Catch me and kiss me and say it again", anything by Shel Silverstein or any Caldecott book (they have great pictures).

Throw a blanket over a chair and let her play house, hide and seek, etc. Then, line the chairs up for a train ride.

Hope this helps for a day or two!

Reading books, simple jigsaw puzzles, age appropriate toys for playing alone. Rearranging a shelf of plastic containers. Painting the side walk with water (in the summer)

I think the constant change of activities to keep them stimulated and to keep them wrecking the place is hard work for you.

She is getting old enough to have short periods where she can play by herself.

Music, listening to songs, singing along, dancing - all get her to spend some energy on rainy indoor days. You could also make musical instruments with beans and peas inside containers (seal them very well - to keep her from choking)

my kids love making necklaces with big wooden beads I bought them specially for doing this.

she is old enough to start being interested in little puzzles, matching shapes, colours etc

she might also enjoy reading with you, she can begin to start to build vocabulary, recognise things and name them.

does she like trains? those thomas trains are awesome! and there are other brands too (not as expensive).
Also, not to make you out to be a mean mommy or anything, if you have the time and patience, MAKE her play with something. Tell her she HAS to play with the blocks for thirty minutes, then clean it up. then tell her she HAS to read books for thirty minutes. repeat, and dont leave out other toys for her to be distracted with and dont let her follow you around and do the "hovering" thing (following, whining, wanting to be carried and talked to).

If this doesn't work, go to the pet section of your local Wal Mart and buy a carrying cage with a lock!
