Mary and Joseph lived in Nazareth in Galilee and they traveled to Bethlehem in Judea. If you look up a map that shows those places you can guess at the miles. I am not sure about the donkey, or if they had more than one, or where it even came from, and yes, Mary was pregnant with Jesus...the whole point.

Its a desert now only because those who claim the land didn't take care of it, and donkeys do travel in deserts as a matter of fact in Nevada there are free Donkey herds. wild Donkeys who live off the land and are protected by a government decree against selfish water users.

Well....Nazareth to Bethlehem is roughly 70 miles. I'd say:
"Seventy miles"
