My dog was playing in the back yard with my pug pup. She was running around and flip over a cord we have for Christmas lights, she hurt her right rear hip. I have been asking vet places if i could make payments since i am on SSD and they all said no.. I always thought vet wanted to help take care of animals, i was not asking for free service just to be able to make payments and the would not help out. So my dog is in alot of pain and i am in alot of tears. I just don't know what to do i do the best i can with what i got. Thanks for listening.

I think thats something you should have thought about before becoming a pet owner. Pets can be expensive

I worked for an animal hospital that promoted and sold Royal Canin brand. It's not a crappy brand either. A lot of the diets they make are prescription, which is beneficial to the dog or cat with a certain medical condition. The vet I worked with fed her animals this brand. As far as the vet getting paid by Royal Canin to sell their food, that did not happen. She sold the food because she believed it was a good brand. ADD: Where oh where do some people get the idea that veterinarians are not trained in nutrition? I suppose you think if you read an article written by anyone, then it must be true.

Your cost may not be that great, depending on what the injury is. If it's a soft tissue injury an exam may be the most expensive thing to deal with. If you can afford the exam, I would just take her in, hear what they have to say and go from there. They should be willing to provide you with estimates at that time, as sometimes when they see you face to face they are more willing to work with you.

Some clinics offer a service called Care Credit, you may ask some clinics if they have this available. You could also offer to leave checks dated ahead so they may cash them on the dates you have both agreed to.

As a last resort, call a local pharmacist and request a dose for aspirin for your dog. It's over the counter so some clinics may give you this info too. Be sure not to give your dog ibuprofen or tylenol.

Good luck.

I would suggest taking it to the local animal shelter. Apart from that, many states have low income assistance programs to help with things like this. Try searching online for your states "agriculture and markets" department. Another option you have is to offer some form of deposit and/or collateral to the vet. Many times, the actual vet will be more willing to work with you than the receptionist who is there to enforce the terms of the vet. One other thing you could look into is veterinary clinics. In my area there are health clinics for animals that are only a fraction of the cost of normal vet care. Your local animal shelter can point you toward these in your area. Hope this helps.

Try this website www.care2.com It's a community of really caring individuals who may be able to offer some much needed assistance. Actually, the first time I ever used the site, there was a woman who's ferret was sick and she was looking for donations (although she didn't refer to them as donations, but anyone who could spare anything, she was willing to pay back over time). I personally made a $20 donation to her and she was able to get her ferret vetted. It's appalling that vets don't seem to care about the animals, just the money. Just because someone isn't rich, that doesn't mean they shouldn't have pets. I know what you're going through, believe me. We have 4 dogs and 1 of them was sick a few years back and we didn't have the $2000 the vet wanted to care for her (with no guarantee that she'd even get better), but we were lucky...we have a very good friend who offered to GIVE us the money - whatever amount it was - to care for our sick dog. Our dog, Sadie, got the care she needed and is healthy and vibrant today, thanks to our 'angel' who helped us in our time of need.

Also, contact area rescues and shelters, they usually have vets available who don't charge as much as regular vets. Just explain to them your situation and what happened and I'm sure you'll get some help.

Good luck and God Bless you and your dog!

Some time ago, I was reading in 'Cat fancy" magazine, there is a place out there that will help people that cant afford to repair their pets. Please start with www.catfancy.com, and see where that takes you. I know they exsist, because about three years ago, my neice's cat was shot, and shee is diabled. I found that website in there magazine, gave it to her, and the cat had it front leg removed, and they either payed or help pay the bill. Another thing to do is contact your local animal selter, and explain your mess. They may be able to help you in some way. Please dont give up. Your Pet needs you now more than ever. This world is full of animal lovers. Good luck and God bless you.

there is a credit card type thing out there that is specifically for vet payment. I have enough vet billsto pay myself,so I can't help financially. Also, dogs can be expensive, if you are that tight on ssd can you afford to care for a dog, let alone 2. Not trying to be mean, but it issomething you should consider.

Call your local SPCA. Sometimes they have vets on staff that will help people in your situation. If you can't find someone who will help you, you may want to consider giving your dog to a humane society. That way she will get the treatment that she needs. I know it would be hard for you, but you really have to think about what would be best for the dog.

I understand your pain. We wondered how to pay for chemo for our dog. Apply for Care Credit. Your vet should have the info in his office. Or try looking for a low cost agency that will help you in your area. They usually neuter animals on a sliding cost fee. Maybe they can help. Good luck and better health for her.

Talk to your family, they might be able to lend you some money.
Also, pain meds aren't that expensive so keep her on them for now until you can have something more done.

Some breed rescue groups will help out individuals in need, try to find a group in your area on google. Put in your breed, then rescue, and your city.

Good luck.

Borrow the money, use a credit card, sell something...your dog needs a vet. When we take on a pet we take on the responsibility of getting the pet the health care it needs.
