The only way to close one tab is to click on the little x on the tab where it tells you what site you are on, this is on the menu bar under the address bar. The only reason that the whole internet should be closing is because the x at the top is pressed.

For a warning of when you are about to close all tabs go to tools internet options and click on settings next to tabs. Then select the option for warn me when closing multiple tabs and press ok

Click Tools, Internet Options, and click the question mark at the upper right. In the search box, put a t for tabbed browsing and read the FAQs. To just close 1 tab, clikc the x in the upper right. There are a lot of things you can do with tabs and there is a big list. Read it, you will be glad you did.
