I work at Walgreens in the photo dept. You should be able to go to your local Walgreens and sign a copyright release form stating you will take full responsibility of the photo. Photographers charge a lot for reprints because they take the risk of never reprinting their own photos. If your photo is 100+ years, you should have no problem printing them at Walgreens. If any store prints copyrighted photos, they could face a fine in the thousands and the employee who printed that photo could be terminated.

I had the same problem. I'm the photographer of the family so, of course, i was handed down the fragile and very old photos. I used my Epson scanner/photo printer to digitally store and save it from further wear. Then, with photoshop, i fixed the fading and yellowing to it's original state. I printed out the newly revised photo myself for a fraction of the price others would do it for.

Summary: Do it yourself! It is very rewarding and you know exactly what you want done with the photos! Good luck!

Check out the government page on patents, they have copywrite info on there as well. But to make a copy, take it to one of those Kodak machines in the larger shopping stores, the K-Mart and Wallmart have them around here. The machine lets you do whatever you wish with the photo, enlarge, copy, crop, etc. It also prints it out for you on quality paper and one of the ones my daughter's father-in-law uses laminates the enlargements for him. Have fun!

i don't know if copyright laws would apply to that...take it to a person who has a professional studio and the scanning and printing equipment to do what you need to have done...this is not something you want to leave to a home scanner or some hack with a computer and a scanner and a printer.

Find someone with a home scanner, scan it and make a digital file, then print it.
