Bear in mind that dairy foods like ice cream can be very irritating to your dog's digestive system. They do make a doggie ice cream, but my dogs don't really like the stuff. Of course, they love vanilla ice cream, which they do get in very small quantities - like maybe a tablespoon each on hot days, very infrequently. Any type of meats that are good for people are usually good for dogs, such as chicken, turkey (although not turkey skin), fish like salmon, duck, high-quality hamburger can be good in rationed portions, rice is good for them as well. Fresh veggies are good too, like carrots. Plain yogurt and cottage cheese mixed with their food is good for their coats, although again, be careful due to the dairy content, don't want to give too much at once. You can also get marrow bones from your local grocer. These are wonderful treats for your dogs and will help reduce tartar on their teeth, not to mention, keep them busy for hours!

I have a dog in Vietnam that has always been fed on people foods since he was a puppy, and she is still healthy and smart at 15 years old now.. Almost everyone in Asia only feeds human foods to dogs since there are no dog foods in there. It's a myth that dogs can't evolve and digest human foods and that meaty human foods are less healthy for dogs than dog foods. You just need to cook it right for dogs, not to add seasonings, not too much salt, fat, sugar, or flavors, basically meat, rice, potatoes, fruits and veggies are good for dogs. Dog foods can have preservatives and other ingredients that cause cancer and hurt dogs health in the long term.

No, they shouldn't have ice cream. Most dogs are lactose intolerant, plus it has too much sugar. And you said you know what they can't eat!
If a dog is fed a premium quality dog food and not so much stuff they shouldn't have they have nice healthy skin and coat. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. Human food should not be fed to a dog. It only encourages them to want that over their nutritionally balanced dry dog food. Also human food and wet dry food does not offer any dental benefits/cleaning like dry kibble does. Certain human food can be deadly to a dog. Best not to gamble with feeding them human food...table scraps should also be a no no... dogs are not garbage disposals. if you want to give your dog a special treat than buy them a special can of wet food for those special occassions.
Dogs should not be fed human ice cream... most dogs are lactose intolerant. If during the summer months you feel inclined to give them something to cool down with try regular ice cubes or Frosty Paws.

Dang I use to know a website for this & it told the does and donts on what to give dogs. As long as you know the donts I would think you are covered tho. I was shocked at the list of all the things they cant eat & now know why so many other peoples dogs have so many problems (cus of the human foods people give them). My dog is a bannana freak lol.
Ut oh was going for an edit & seen some of the things people are saying they should, yet you SHOULD NOT!! You really want to search the web.

Dogs can eat just about anything humans can, some dogs even like vegetables. However, stay away from sugars etc, and chocolate can be poisonous.

I have 3 dogs and I have always had dogs. Your dogs should stay away from any dried fruit (raisins, prunes, etc), onions, chocolate, etc. basically you should stick with dog food. However, my vet suggested carrots as a fun healthy snack. Its funny to see my dogs eat a carrot. I get the baby carrots so I don't find gross chewed up bits all over.

Animals (dogs & cats) should not eat human food at all. That is what they make dog and cat food for. They don't need the same nutrients as humans do.
