I always struggled with this. But I have found a good conditioning dandruff control shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner seems to do the trick. You might not have dandruff, it may be a dry and damaged scalp from styling and washing too often. Try VO5 hot oil treatment to heal your scalp then give it a break from any chemicals that are found in stying aids. Also wash hair with warm not hot water so it won't dry out as bad, this keeps your natural oils in your scalp where you need them.

In the shower, before you put on shampoo, put on conditioner everywhere but your scalp. Then leave the conditioner on and give yourself a good scalp rub with dandruff shampoo. Do this longer than you're used to, and be kind of vigorous about it.
See, the shampoo will strip your hair of its natural oils, so you just want to use it as a scalp treatment. Also, you don't want the rest of your hair to get too dry from over-shampooing, which is why the conditioner goes on first - it protects it.

Skip all that chemical over the counter stuff, and get some natural tea tree oil shampoo and a hemp conditioner (with no sodium laureth sulfates) from a natural food store (one that sells organic stuff). That will normalize your scalp. You can also help by getting plenty of vitamin e in your diet (again, I recommend an organic supplement).

Try head and shoulders and once the dandruff is gone use it once a week. Or you can use all the time afterwards.
