My friend and I were working out and she used lighter weights than she was used to(about 10lbs lighter), but we were on an unstable surface (on purpose). Anyway, she said a set really 'hurt' her biceps and she strained them. She did another set with lighter weights and good form. Is that possible if she really strained her biceps?

You can continue to use a muscle that you have "strained." Just be careful. If you can lift lighter weights with good form and it doesn't hurt at all, you're OK. But if it starts to hurt, even a little, stop lifting. And as with everything else, take an anti-inflammatory like Motrin and ice it if you need to.

Protect the strained muscle from additional damage. Rest the strained muscle. Avoid the pursuits that precipitated the pressure and different pursuits which are painful. Ice the muscle subject (quarter-hour each hour whilst wakeful). Ice is an excessively potent anti inflammatory and suffering-relieving agent. Small ice packs, corresponding to applications of frozen greens or water frozen in foam espresso cups, implemented to the subject would possibly aid cut down infection. Compression generally is a lightly implemented with an Ace or different elastic bandage, which is able to furnish each help and cut down swelling. Do now not wrap tightly. Elevate the injured subject to cut down swelling. Prop up a strained leg muscle whilst sitting, for illustration.

a strained muscle will cause discomfort, and if used without giving it a chance to heal, over time, will cause permanent damage. Suggest your friend give the strained muscles at least 24 hours with ice and Ibuprofen and rest before lifting anything.
