Use plastic or metal or paper items when decorating with children. Provide a ladder they can hold onto or a something with a hand hold. Stools are okay for older children but younger children end up falling into the tree. Have the tree lights on already as they can not help with this. The lights contain small traces of lead usually so the kids should not handle the lights. It isn't any fun waiting for an adult to get the lights on the tree. Keep them moving around the tree or move the tree whichever is best for you as they will decorate one spot. Remember this is fun not a designer tree. Tinsel is a pain so don't use it, provide strings of beads instead. Do you have all the decoration you need if not take a trip to the dollar store with them or make them at home. Always provide each child with a special ornament of their own to place on the tree. My children have their special ornament on their own trees now. And hot chocolate afterwards makes everything perfect. Don't put candy or cookies on the tree or you will end up with a big headache. I have included several websites for craft ideas for christmas ornaments and coloring etc..

Sorry, I saw this question and the first thing that popped into my head were kids hanging all over the tree. I had to laugh. But I did understand your question.

My son and I have a fake tree. So this year I let him (he's 7) assemble the tree (with help from me) to make him feel like a big boy. I let him have fun putting the ornaments down below while I took care of the top.

There are usually a lot of empty spaces where afterwards. So what we usually do is sit down at the kitchen table and make snowflakes and drink hot chocolate together. The snowflakes then fill in the empty spaces. He loves to show them off.

When it is time to take down the tree, he picks 2 or 3 of his favorite, Idate them and we save those for the next year.

The best way to decorate a Christmas tree with kids is to get strong straps under their arms, and hang them from the main trunk of the tree. Don't hang them from the branches, because they just don't hold the kids' weight well. Also be sure to put a plastic sheet on the floor to contain their mess. Otherwise you have to keep taking them down for bathroom breaks, and that's a lot of extra work.

We did this one year , let the kids help by making some ornaments , I bought a couple of little dollies they come like snow flakes , and you can get them in different colors, iI bought Gold ones and I cut a bunch of family pictures in circles and the pictures were smaller than the dollies so I put them in the center of the dollies and put hooks in them and they turned out perfect , we hung them on the tree , and we still have them , you can let the kids glue them on the dollies and they will be so proud to see them hanging on the tree , and some we put pictures on each so when they turnned you saw each picture , very pretty with the other ornaments

When my kids help, they usually put all their homemade stuff from school, church, or wherever on the tree. I put the lights on first of course and then let them go at it. I am not critical of what they hang or where they hang it. So what is most of the ball are on the bottom. it is their tree also. Every year our tree looks beautiful because it was made by us. Merry Christmas!!!!

Popcorn strings or construction paper chain link is always nice as it gives the kids something that they made to be put on the tree and they feel more involved that way. Sure the tree could be kinda ugly by the time they are done, but it's their tree and they'll love it.

its wonderful and easy and a little messy so the kids will love to do it, pop a bunch of regular popcorn and take a sowing needle and some thread and strain the popcorn on the thread and you have some home made garland that is tasty and fun, or you can give the kids the decorations and you tell the where to put them

I don't know, I usually decorate my tree with lights and balls and ornaments. Kids are too heavy, they will tip the tree over.

Well, first you have to make sure the branches are stong enough to support the kids. Hang some lights first, then hang the kids in an ornamental fashion, big ones on the bottom, small ones on the top.

No problem.
