i think i used to slouch a lot when i was a teenager with my shoulders lumped foward. Can anyone say how to identify bad posture? Is the spine supposed to be dead straight all the way to the head or is it supposed to curve at the top?

No person has a perfectly straight spine. All spines bend one way or another. Posture is not about your body's physical attributes, it is about the way that you carry yourself. The only way to change your posture is to force yourself to change it. Sit up straight in chairs, stand up straight, things like that. Just conciously force yourself to do these things and your posture wil improve because doing these things will eventually be second nature to you. Practice makes nearly perfect (seeing as none are perfect) so practice and you will get it.

Hello,

The human spine has a natural curvature or S shape when people have good posture. If your interested to find out if you have good posture, or problems with your posture I seriously suggest that you find and go and consult with an Alexander Technique teacher.

**If you run a quick search on "alexander technique" (yahoo or google.com) you should be able to find alot of useful information.

**The Alexander Technique do have a national HQ in the UK from which you should be able to find out who & where your nearest AT teacher is.

Best Regards, good luck with that!

Wave Hello,

Go to a really good sports masseuse. They will be able to give you a posture assessment and give you an idea of the things you need to do. You may need to stretch some muscles and build some up. x
