Webster defines myth as "A usually traditional story of ostensibly historical events that serve to unfold part of the world's view of a people or explain a practice, belief or natural phenomenon."
AS such the word does not have an inherently negative connotation to it. It is perfectly legitimate to refer to the Myth of Jesus Christ. May I add that this is one myth that I believe in because Jesus Christ totally changed my life for the better. I live in a daily awareness of the power of the living God in my life, because the Kingdom of God is not a matter of words, but of power.
Religion has more to do with the practical application of beliefs, whether institutionalized or personal.

All religion is partially based on myth. All mythology is not religion. Read Joseph Campbell he explains it better. There are stories that fit the criteria for mythology. Modern examples of mythology would be Star Wars movies.

Myths don't have worship involved, to the best of my knowledge. It's only a religion if you're on your knees talking to the ceiling. I certainly don't get like that every time I hear the story of Kriss Kringle.
